I did neck and upper shoulders today, had to take a few week break while a medication cycled out of my system. I about passed out the last time I went.

Start the rest tomorrow, slooooowly.

As a fattie I haven't read this thread out of shame. But, I am trying to do something about it. Possibly relatedly, have we talked much about vitamins/supplements? Any thoughts on nootropics?

oh i prefer cycling any day over running.

As far as supplements go, the only thing I take is a pre workout drink that I am in love with. It's awesome. and a post protein recovery drink.

Do you think those are useful for slimming up as well? They seem geared towards weight workouts and muscle building. I know some people do not separate losing weight with gaining muscle but that is hard to manage diet-wise, at least it always has been for me.

Absolutely.

Burn your calories-burn your fat.
Refuel your body with HEALTHY foods.
Watch your ratio of carb/protein/healthy fats.
Don't eat carbs in the evening. Your body will burn carbs first when you are sleeping. Double the work there.

When you are building muscle (you burn calories doing this which leads to "slimming" up) for "me" it's essential to have my recovery.

Don't focus on the number on the scale. Muscle is more dense than fat therefore it takes up less space. Bulk up=higher weight.

But yes....they are useful. Getting a diet that works for you is priority #1 for sure.

You can always do cardio alone and lose just fat slim down, and then include weights later on.

Thanks for the advice. Diet wise I have made some changes for the better in May. I am generally off of sugars and processed foods altogether. I am limiting my meat intake, and mostly eating raw vegetables and some fruits. Just by doing this and moderate exercise I am down 21 pounds for the month so far, which is pretty awesome. The best part is that we are now at 21 days as well, which supposedly means I have formed a habit. I feel like a new person, literally.

I think I will get back into lifting and more strenuous exercise next month. Two observations are relevant here from my past experience. First, this is the longest major food change I have done in over a decade. Second, any time in the past when I was trying to eat right strenuous exercise made me hungry. I would eat badly, eventually exercise diminishes and the weight comes back. This is why I am taking things slow this time.

Great job. Eating right is by far the hardest part in many ways!

Especially when you're like me and you have a boyfriend that throws crap like cheese fries on your plate.

Yep. It makes you hungry b/c your metabolism is kicking up. Smaller meals really help me. Throw some almond or peanut butter in a protein smoothie made with frozen berries and whatever else you like. That REALLY curbs the hunger pains for a few hours.

These are the things that I am still learning. The most amazing thing for me right now is that my cravings are for things like raw green veggies and not friend chicken. Yesterday evening I had not eaten anything since an early lunch. I went to Sam's to get some produce. Typically I would buy one of their chickens or some meal that is easy to make albeit unhealthy. Instead I just walked past it all and went home and made a nice salad. Never, and I mean never in my life have I had that sort of control. I see bright things on the horizon.

I'm that way with certain foods but only late at night. Late night hunger is just a bad bad thing for me. If I'm out late at night and driving by a Waffle House....watch out. I will clear a table.

I try to go to bed early every night.

So what about nutritional supplements like vitamins and various extracts?

You would have to talk to someone who is a "nutritionist", not me by any means. I take super-B complex, CoQ10, and Magnesium in the mornings followed by CoQ10 and Melotonin in the evenings, but this is a migraine regimen. The superB-complex is suppose to be great for energy and if you notice just about all of the energy drinks are packed with B vitamins (as well as caffeine and sugar).

Getting hopped up on caffeine before a work out is suppose to help in weight loss, their is gum that is basically nothing but caffeine, the military guys here might be able to tell you where to get it and how it works, that is what they make it for.

If just trying to drop pounds, diet and cardio should help in that. I lost 40lbs just by changing my diet (less portions, better food, less total intake each day) and being more "active", basically walking when ever possible, taking the stairs instead of an elevator, stuff like that. The drop was from 210 to 170, FWIW.

I think you will notice that once you start losing the fat you will have more energy, feel better, and feel like doing more, at least that is how it worked for me, I felt "years" younger.

The diet part can be hard as quitting junk food is about as hard as quitting drinking or smoking, the addiction to that stuff is all about the "same".

Basically, I'd jog/cycle/swim for cardio then start a simple weight training regimen as converting fat to muscle isn't a bad thing. There is a difference in lifting to build strength versus size. I'm building for strength right now, you lift less in weight, more sets of reps, and do not try to find "your max". It is also a slower transition to more weight, but you will find that what you start at will become easy pretty quick then you step up the weight a little. I've increased all my weights by 20-50lbs depending on what area I'm working on (arms, legs, core) in the past month.

Long winded, but maybe I explained decently, if its wrong information, someone correct me.

Oh another thing, if you are single and going to a gym, just concentrate on your workout not chasing around the women there. They are there to work out not hook up.

Did I ever tell you guys that I love, absolutely love Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Yum.

Yes, my weight loss has stalled this past week and a half.

I'm eating terrible, but not gaining. I guess that's something.

I had tamales and macaroni and cheese for dinner last night. I did work out, though!
