It's a combination of many things but with the transfer portal nothing if final and with NIL promises we'll see if it sticks.
His final four was Mizzou, Arkansas, UCF and UNLV and IIRC never did he favor Arkansas anytime throughout his recruitment. For a long time this spring it was Notre Dame, UCF and Mizzou leading. Not sure ND, OU or LSU were committable offers.
You could say we prefer other HS LBs, with NIL we didn't have highest bid because outside of a few HS players most of out collectives go toward retaining existing experienced players and transfer portal guys who have play at the collegiate level and less risk.
The Odom/Scherer change also played a big role as to be expected when new DC and LB coach wants his guys and not who the previous guys were recruiting or had relationships developed over a few years.

According to Hognonymous, this guy wasn’t a priority. It’s one of those, we have to pursue because he’s instate but we’re not breaking the NIL to land him.
No clue who that guy is but he seems more connected than anyone out there.

Arkansas continues to make a splash in wide receiver recruiting as its group stands out among the nation’s best, and the Razorbacks might not be done adding playmakers to their offense during the 2024 cycle, says 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong.
quote:
ARKANSAS TARGETING IMPACTFUL DUO OF SELMAN BRIDGES, BRAYLEN RUSSELL:
quote:
“This is one school to watch that can maybe make the next big step in college football, perhaps remind us of those early 2010 teams that went to the Cotton Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, and these are two more recruits that can help them get there. Braylen Russell ran for over 1,600 yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior. Can also catch the football; 224 yards receiving. Selman Bridges: 6-foot-3, tremendous length, a smooth corner. Arkansas ranked 130th against the pass last year. He’s someone that would certainly help the trajectory on the defensive side of the ball.”
quote:
ARKANSAS BUILDING ELITE WIDE RECEIVER CLASS:
quote:
“This cycle, Arkansas is recruiting the [wide receiver] position at an extremely high level. One of the best hauls in the land. A trio of pass-catchers who will be an absolute problem in the SEC. Arkansas, they’ve had one of the most prolific offenses in the country — top 15 last year. Courtney Crutchfield, let’s start there; 17 receptions for 517 yards and nine touchdowns. That’s pretty good. That’s over 30 yards a grab, and every less than two catches he’s in the end zone. Also played defense, forced three fumbles, picked off two passes. Very physical. He’s an explosive player, very instinctual and obviously dangerous when the football is in his hands.
“Then you have Ashton Bethel-Roman, the son of 10-year NFL veteran Mark Roman; 37 catches, 900 yards, eight scores. He had over 24 yards a catch last year, 23-foot long jumper, so similar to Courtney Crutchfield; when they catch the ball, they’ve got a chance to light up the scoreboard, and they’re just very explosive players. Let’s not forget CJ Brown from in-state; 75 catches, 16 touchdowns, averaged over 17 yards a catch. He’s maybe the fastest of that group.”

Benton (Ark.) four-star running back Braylen Russell has committed to Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks. The 6-2, 230-pound back went public with his commitment to the Hogs at approximately 6:45 p.m. central via the 247Sports YouTube channel.
Russell, who initially committed to Arkansas on November 6, 2021 and re-opened his recruitment on October 9, 2022, chose the Razorbacks again over two other finalists in South Carolina and Tennessee. Texas A&M, Baylor, Ole Miss, Kansas State, Cincinnati, Kansas, Purdue and others are also found on Russell’s offer list.
Arkansas running backs coach Jimmy Smith is credited for leading the charge in Russell’s recruitment, though Pittman and offensive coordinator Dan Enos played a major role, as well. The four-star is the Razorbacks’ 15th verbal commitment overall and their second running back in the class, joining three-star athlete Jadan Baugh of Decatur (Ga.) Columbia.
According to 247Sports, Russell is a four-star prospect, the No. 22 running back in the nation, and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Arkansas for the Class of 2024. The 247Sports Composite rankings have Russell as the No. 307 player in the nation, 25th among all running backs, and fourth overall in the Natural State.
As a junior, Russell ran for 1,643 yards and 26 touchdowns while catching 22 passes for 224 yards and another score. Here’s more on Russell from 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks:
“Big-bodied back with better-than-expected open-field athleticism and impressive short-range acceleration. Boasts a three-sport athletic profile with uncommon combination of reps in throws events (shot put as a junior) and sprints (100 meters as a sophomore), plus basketball.
Production made a significant increase from sophomore to junior year, in both totals and per carry rate. Consistently displays ability to catch the ball out of the backfield with almost 50 receptions across 2021-22 seasons. Downhill burst combines with large frame to make for a difficult second-level tackling assignment. Vision and sneaky first-move elusiveness catch defenders off guard. Encouragingly shows ability to get skinny in the hole considering big-bodied build.
Flashes some subtle quick-footedness in tight quarters that keeps plays alive and gains unexpected extra yardage. Can still get faster at the top end, but showed improved open-field linear speed in 2022. Gears down noticeably when redirecting, but helps compensate with promising burst out of those moves. Should provide a forceful short-yardage option at the next level given size and athleticism.
Upright running style and huge frame combine to create a large target for defenders. Occasionally relies on athleticism rather than run-finishing size / strength. Can improve lower-half fluidity. Lacks full catalog of verified data to provide ideal context to athleticism. Does immense size limit long-term upside?
Projects as a quality Power Five running back prospect who could at least provide a punishing change-of-pace option, but also might become a high-volume workhorse. Scheme and fit will influence college role and impact, but the size and functional athleticism make for a four-star back with the potential to play beyond college.”
With the addition of Russell, Arkansas goes from 25th to 19th in the national recruiting rankings, while also jumping Ole Miss and South Carolina for 7th in the SEC rankings. The Razorbacks have a chance to continue climbing in the rankings at approximately 7 p.m. this evening when Top50 national target Selman Bridges chooses between Arkansas, Texas, TCU and USC.

Arkansas is putting together an offensive recruiting class that should maintain one of the best attacks in college football and compete at a high level in the SEC for years to come. Benton (Ark.) High four-star running back Braylen Russell is the latest to join the fold.
The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Russell chose the Razorbacks over conference rivals Tennessee and South Carolina among others.
“They’re building something,” Russell told 247Sports.
Russell adds to a 2024 class that boasts one of the nation’s top receiver corps and a quarterback that has all the traits to be a dynamic guy under center.
“Sam Pittman told me you’re not as good as you can be unless you have all the dudes and all the pieces around you,” Russell said. “Once he told me that, and all the dudes started texting me, I’m like this is home.”
Commit No. 15 for the Razorbacks, Russell rushed for 1,685 yards and 26 touchdowns with another 22 receptions for 224 yards and a score.
“Big-bodied back with better-than-expected open-field athleticism and impressive short-range acceleration,” 247Sports National Analyst Gabe Brooks wrote in his scouting report. “Boasts a three-sport athletic profile with uncommon combination of reps in throws events (shot put as a junior) and sprints (100 meters as a sophomore), plus basketball.
“Production made a significant increase from sophomore to junior year, in both totals and per carry rate. Consistently displays ability to catch the ball out of the backfield with almost 50 receptions across 2021-22 seasons. Russell is one of several big-play guys in the fold for Arkansas. The class starts with talented four-star quarterback KJ Jackson who led Montgomery (Ala.) St. James School to a state championship, completing over 67 percent of his passes for 2,809 yards and 42 touchdowns.
Top247 receiver Courtney Crutchfield averaged over 30 yards per catch, turning 17 receptions into 517 yards and nine touchdowns for Pine Bluff (Ark.) High. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Crutchfield also picked off two passes and forced three fumbles. He has a personal best of 6-foot-3 in the high jump and has leapt 22 feet 3 inches in the long jump.
Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point Top247 receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman the son of 10-year NFL veteran defensive back Mark Roman, made 37 catches for 892 yards with eight touchdowns (24.1 yards per catch) last season. He is also a track standout with personal bests of 23 feet 3 inches in the long jump and 21.51 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Bentonville (Ark.) High receiver CJ Brown might be the fastest of the bunch, and he was the go-to guy last fall catching 75 passes for 1,284 yards, over 17 yards per catch with 16 scores. Ocean Springs (Miss.) St. Martin playmaker Noreel White played everything from quarterback to receiver and had over 1,000 yards of total offense and has shined on the camp circuit this off-season. Russell is excited to play alongside all these guys.
“The culture, the family feeling that they have,” Russell said. “You go down there I feel like I’m home. Coach Pittman is building something great down there. I feel like in a couple years they’ll be one of the top runners if we get the right guys.”
Looks like they are.

Four-star running back Braylen Russell of Benton (AR) High announced his commitment to Arkansas Friday night.
The 6-foot-2, 235 pounder chose the Razorbacks over Tennessee and South Carolina.
Russell on why he chose Arkansas
“They never gave up on me once I decommitted from them,” Russell said. “In 10th grade they showed me that I am their guy and they wanted me.”
Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him
“The coaching staff is amazing,” Russell said. “I’m really close with the running back coach Jimmy Smith. They plan on using me as a 3 down back that can do everything just about.”
What it means to stay home to Russell and family
“It means a lot for the home state to show so much love and just to feel wanted by where you’re from. It is just special.”
Russell ranks as the No. 316 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 27 running back and the No. 4 player in the state of Arkansas.
The Arkansas running back joins coach Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks’ top 20 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star defensive lineman Charleston Collins, four-star athlete Courtney Crutchfield, and others.

“Their message is that the state school would take care of me very good,” Russell said. “I could be a big priority to their team and come play.”
Russell is the No. 315 overall prospect and No. 27 running back in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Arkansas.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Russell initially decommitted from Arkansas back in October and has since taken visits to Columbia and Knoxville.
“The family feeling, someone I can just come to about my problems,” Russell said about what is important to him in a school. “You always want that person you can talk to because that’s really big to have. I’m really looking for somebody I can connect with. If I can connect with the staff, that means God’s leading me there.”

Russell joins top-20 recruiting class
Russell joins an Arkansas class that ranks in the top 20 nationally after finishing with the No. 26 group in the 2023 cycle. The Razorbacks’ lone July commitment until now came from Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point top-150 wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman on the Fourth of July. Russell is the first and currently only running back committed to Arkansas and the seventh blue-chip prospect to pledge to the Razorbacks.

The second running back in the class of 2024 officially joined the fold on Friday as four-star running back Braylen Russell recommitted to Arkansas.
Arkansas won out for his commitment over Tennessee and South Carolina, who he had included in his top 3 prior to his announcement.
Arkansas running backs coach Jimmy Smith has always kept a full stable of running backs, and it’s no different in this class with Russell, as well as four-star Jadan Baugh, on the commitment list.
Let’s take a closer look at what Russell will bring to the Arkansas locker room next season.
Last year for Benton, Russell rushed for 1,643 yards on 240 attempts and he found the end zone 26 times. He added 224 receiving yards on 22 receptions and scored once through the air.
What Russell brings to Arkansas is a unique blend of speed and size that translates well to the SEC level. At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, he has the strength and speed to carry a solid workload for the Hogs.
His frame also suggests that he has the ability to add more weight when he gets on campus and in an SEC training room, meaning he could find himself in the same category of size as current star Rahiem "Rocket" Sanders, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 237 pounds.
The in-state prospect will have the chance to show what he’s capable of early when he gets on campus as well. Running backs have a tendency to contribute somewhat early, which was the case for current Arkansas running back Rashod Dubinion, who rushed for 293 yards and five touchdowns last season.
After this season, it’s a foregone conclusion that Sanders will be off the NFL, and should junior AJ Green have an above average season, there’s a chance he tries his hand in the professional ranks as well. Redshirt junior Dominique Johnson is another name to factor in, but he's dealt with two tears to the same ACL in the past two seasons.
That would leave a void for the Razorbacks, and while Dubinion and true freshman Isaiah Augustave will have experience over Russell, he’ll get his shot to prove he belongs in the rotation in some capacity in the same vein Dubinion did.
By calling the Hogs, Russell joins an impressive haul of in-state prospects by head coach Sam Pittman and his coaching staff. They missed out on four-stars Walker White and Brian Huff, but have gotten a big portion of SEC-level recruits in four-star defensive end Charleston Collins, four-star wide receiver Courtney Crutchfield and three-star wide receiver CJ Brown.

Temple (Texas) Lake Belton Top247 cornerback Selman Bridges announced his commitment to Arkansas on Friday evening choosing the Razorbacks over USC, Texas, and TCU among others.
Bridges caps off an exciting night on the trail for Sam Pittman and company who also landed a verbal from four-star running back Braylen Russell.
“The coaching staff,” Bridges said of Arkansas. “It just felt right.”
247Sports tabs the 6-foot-3, 170-pound Bridges as the nation’s No. 6 cornerback and No. 50 prospect overall. With Bridges and Russell in the fold, the Razorbacks have gone from No. 25 to No. 16 in the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings.
“I would say Coach (Sam) Pittman, Coach (Marcus) Woodson, Coach T-Will (Travis Williams), Coach (Deron) Wilson, those guys they’re real good coaches. They care about me on and off the field.”
Bridges took his official to Arkansas the weekend of June 16.
“Coach Woodson has believed in me,” Bridges said. “We’ve been building a relationship since January. It’s been real with him. He came to my school and saw me face to face and ever since then nothing has changed, he’s kept the same energy and never switched up. He’s always been the same, real straight-forward.
“Coach Pittman he’s a great guy. That’s another thing that caught my eye. He’s a great guy. I want to surround myself with great people.”
Bridges had 42 tackles, six pass breakups, two interceptions and a pick six as a junior. 247Sports National Analyst and Lone Star State native Gabe Brooks is high on him as a prospect.
“Exceptionally tall corner with lean, narrow build and encouraging fluidity relative to high, isolated center of gravity. Triggers on short-to-intermediate throws impressively given natural inertia created by his physical traits. Capable of swallowing up smaller receivers in press coverage and knows how to crowd catch windows at multiple levels.
“Multi-sport athlete with experience in basketball and track and field. Good functional athlete on the field with a smooth backpedal that combines with the aforementioned triggering twitch. Wingspan is only slightly larger than height, but the frame plays long, erasing catch-point separation smaller corners cannot. Particularly tough to beat in red-zone situations because of frame and awareness.
“Physical tools compensate vs. high school competition in situations that will require more technical nuance in the future. Little doubt about functional athleticism, but can probably squeeze more juice out of the top gear to aid turn-and-run and recovery abilities. Narrow and wiry but must gain some mass and get stronger. Above average ball skills, but can increase takeaway frequency considering how many throws his mitts find.
“Without a doubt, has "the look" of the modern tall corner akin to a perimeter tarantula on the outside. Should be able to man up vs. most outside receivers and could become a zone coverage nemesis, shrinking throwing lanes and catch windows. Projects as a high-major prospect with the physical and athletic profiles that, with proper development, point to early-round NFL Draft candidacy.”

Arkansas has gone into Texas to land one of the top prospects on its board for the 2024 recruiting cycle. Four-star Temple (Texas) Lake Belton defensive back Selman Bridges announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Friday evening.
Bridges, a Rivals250 prospect and one of the top cornerback prospects in America, opted for Sam Pittman and company over finalists TCU, Texas and USC. The Razorbacks successfully pulled the blue chip talent out of the Lone Star State.
"I'm comfortable, even off the field," Bridges told Rivals.com about Arkansas. "There's more than just football. I can be myself around the coaching staff."
The 6-foot-4 and 170-pound defensive back features impressive size that immediately jumps out. He is a lengthy corner that is still developing his game in the secondary, meaning the best is still in front of him.
During his junior season, Bridges made 46 tackles and grabbed a pair of interceptions, even taking one back for six on a team that earned a berth in the playoffs. Razorbacks assistants Deron Wilson and Marcus Woodson led the way in the recruitment.
"I just really like the coaching staff," said Bridges, who used one of his three official visits to Fayetteville last month. "I've always liked the coaching staff since I visited up there in April."
Bridges also competes in track and field and basketball in addition to his football abilities. He sees an opportunity to carve out a role early for the Razorbacks once he begins his career on the next level.
"They have a whole bunch of players leaving. When I come in there, I'm going to have a chance to compete (for early playing time). That's the thing that they were selling me," Bridges said.
Rivals ranks Selman Bridges as the No. 129 overall recruit in the nation. The newest Arkansas pledge joins fellow Texas defensive back Jaden Allen in the Razorbacks' top-25 recruiting class.

Four-star cornerback Selman Bridges of Temple (TX) Lake Belton High announced his commitment to Arkansas Friday night.
The 6-foot-4, 170 pounder chose the Razorbacks over Texas, TCU, and USC.
Bridges on why he chose Arkansas
“The coaching staff, the culture, and how they already had big plans for me. They have a 3 year plan set up for me already.”
Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him
“Me and coach Woodson are probably the closest but Wilson, T Will, and Pittman have a great relationship with me too. I will be the boundary corner.”
Selman Bridges Scouting Summary
“Tall corner with quick feet and coverage instincts. Among the taller top cornerbacks in the 2024 cycle. Has a thin build, checking in at close to 6-foot-3 and under 160 pounds in the off-season prior to his senior year. Has good length for the position with 32-inch arms. Posted a 4.27 short shuttle at Under Armour’s Dallas camp. Flashes that change of direction on Friday nights. Lines up as an outside cornerback for Lake Belton. Shows strong instincts in coverage. Reads and jumps routes. Does a nice job in changing gears to stay in phase. Shows encouraging fluidity for a taller corner with his ability to redirect. Picked off two passes in addition to six pass breakups as a junior. Looks to be quicker than top-end fast.”
Bridges ranks as the No. 76 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 9 cornerback and the No. 15 player in the state of Texas.
The Lone Star State defensive back joins coach Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks’ top 20 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star defensive lineman Charleston Collins, four-star athlete Courtney Crutchfield, and others.
Personal Life
“Selman Bridges recorded 46 tackles, had six pass breakups and returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown as a junior for Temple (Texas) Lake Belton. The success helped him earn all-area and second-team all-district honors in 2022. Bridges also competes for the Lake Belton basketball and track teams. As a sophomore, he had 200-meter dash times of 22.91, 23.09 and 23.13 seconds. He also was a member of Lake Belton’s Texas 5A regional-qualifying 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.”

One of the nation’s best cornerbacks is off the board midway through the summer.
On300 cornerback Selman Bridges has locked in his commitment with Arkansas over the likes of Texas, TCU and USC after making visits to The Hill in March and again on June 16-18 weekend for an official visit.
The Razorbacks have gone full throttle for the 6-foot-3, 170-pound cornerback from Central Texas, who the staff believes can all of the tools to eventually develop into a first-round NFL Draft pick. Both Marcus Woodson and Deron Wilson showed as much with their steady push for Bridges.
“Coach Woodson is just a good dude, and he doesn’t just recruit me; he recruits my little brother, so it’s a win-win for me,” Bridges told On3. “He’s a good guy and I have a strong relationship with Coach Wilson. We keep building it every day.”
“I’ve seen a lot at Arkansas already,” he continued. “I see the players bonding and getting together as a team, working toward a goal.” “
After his first time on the Hill, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 9-rated cornerback said he had already seen everything in Arkansas.
That included a connection with legendary DB coach Woodson, who is in his first season as the Razorbacks’ co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach. He’s been a force in the Temple (Texas) Lake Belton blue-chip defensive back’s recruitment since getting his feet wet in Fayetteville.
“He’s just a good person and wants to know more about me outside of football and makes sure I know the coaches so if I go there, I feel comfortable around everybody,” Bridges said of Woodson, his lead recruiter. “I’ve been on FaceTime (calls) with the whole defensive staff and everyone was tapping in with me and telling me what’s up.”
Bridges is the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 9 cornerback and the No. 15 recruit in the state of Texas.
As a junior, he recorded 46 tackles, had six pass breakups and returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown.
On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about him as a prospect:
“He is a tall corner with quick feet and coverage instincts. Among the taller top cornerbacks in the 2024 cycle. Has a thin build, checking in at close to 6-foot-3 and under 160 pounds in the off-season prior to his senior year. Has good length for the position with 32-inch arms. Will need to add considerable mass to his thin frame at the next level.”

The bridges commit is probably the biggest of Pittman tenure so far.
It finally seems he has put together a good enough recruting staff to start making some noise... Either that or someone behind the scenes is really starting to play the NIL$ game for football.
