quote:
Baye Fall, C, Denver (Colo.) Accelerated
Recruitment: Signed with Arkansas.
247Sports ranking: 20.
The skinny: The skinny with Fall is that he’s just that, skinny. His lack of bulk can be a problem when playing against more physical big men but his ability to motor up and down the court, bouncy finishing at the rim and potential as a shot blocker help to make up for any lack of strength. After a summer in the weight room and some polish, he should fit right into the SEC.
quote:
Ron Holland, PF, Duncanville (Texas) High
Recruitment: Signed with Texas.
247Sports ranking: 6.
The skinny: Simply put, Holland is a winner. He wins state titles with his high school team and he wins international titles with USA Basketball. He’s an athletic combo forward who does whatever it takes to win and has versatility on both ends of the floor. At the end of the day, he thrives by putting pressure on the rim.

Bronny James really got the spot over Blocker? Good god I hate this day and age

Yep. Absolutely absurd.

Just wait til insert team bron takes his talent to is able to draft bronny in a couple years.
Then bron can retire and have more time to read his books and bronny can learn the native language of the new league he finds himself in.

Layden Blocker is one of the key pieces for one of the top teams in high school basketball. He makes plays at both ends of the court and is especially gifted in the open court, using speed, ball-handling and court awareness to get to spots to set up himself or teammates for baskets. The four-star guard should excel in Arkansas’ scheme from the moment he steps on campus, and he will develop a bigger role over time. His grit and hustle will be very welcomed next season in Fayetteville.

LAYDEN BLOCKER | NO. 28 OVERALL | ARKANSAS
quote:
One player I imagine was on the fringe of this decision making process was Arkansas signee Layden Blocker.
The 6-foot-2 point guard out of Wichita (Kan.) Sunrise Christian Academy may not be the most electric offensive playmaker or scorer but he is a dynamic and highly impactful defender that has impacted winning in his career.
While he ranks No. 28 overall in the 247Sports 2023 rankings, he ranks even higher in the industry-generated Composite Rankings at No. 22 overall.
While his offense is still a work in progress from a scoring and playmaking perspective, he has improve in his area and its evident he puts in the time as he has elevated his shooting ability quite a bit in the last couple of years.

For the second straight year, Arkansas will be represented at the McDonald’s All-American game as signee Baye Fall will play for the West team. The 2023 McDonald’s All-American game is set for March 28 (Tuesday) in Houston’s Toyota Center at 8 pm (CT) and will be televised on ESPN.

Arkansas women’s basketball signee Taliah Scott is one of 24 high school girls invited to play in the McDonald’s All-American game, representing the East. Scott, who signed in November, will be eligible to play for the Razorbacks ahead of the 2023-24 season. She is one of six McDonald’s All-Americans Mike Neighbors has signed at Arkansas, seventh as a head coach. The 46th annual game will be played on Tuesday, March 28 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Scott has been dominating during her senior season, surpassing 2,000 career points in her high school career earlier this season, while averaging 37.3 points per game, which is No. 2 in the country. She is a five-star guard tabbed as the No. 11 player in the country, according to 2023 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings, as well as a 2023 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Trophy Midseason Team choice. Scott went off last season as a junior after averaging 31.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals per game at St. Johns Country Day School, as well as led her team to the school’s first 7A Final Four as a sophomore.
Scott has a number of other high school accolades, such as Florida Time Union All-First Coast Player of the Year, News4Jax Girls Basketball Player of the Year, MaxPreps Junior All-American, among others. She was awarded the 3-Point Shootout Champion at the Curry Camp, UA Elite 24 and SLAM Vol. 4. As a player for Florida Girls Basketball, she was the scoring champion with 660 points (31.4 points per game), marked as the 11th best in the country.
With her selection, Scott is one of six McDonald’s All-Americans signed during the Neighbors era. One of the more promising sophomores in the country, 2025 wing Jamier Jones already has one major offer to his name. How the 6-foot-5 wing's skills and outside shooting develop will ultimately determine how in-demand he becomes, but plenty of high-major schools are already kicking his tires.
Rivals recently caught up with the four-star IMG Academy standout to talk about where things stand as well as the schools that are in the early mix.

All quiet from his camp since the firing and saying they'd take a few weeks to discuss as a family. That was several weeks ago.
Should hear something soon.
Is there a deadline to request release from your NLI?

The interim HC at Texas was Holland's primary recruiter so him staying or leaving will likely determine his decision

I honestly thought Muss was done recruiting or attempting to get Holland.
Seems to be bent on the Portal in stead. Although I am sure, if Holland asked nicely...

Muss can't officially recruit a player who has signed an NLI to another school.
A signed HS NLI isn't like the FAA which transfers in football sign with multiple schools before changing commitments.
Sure in recruiting intermediaries exist and families of these types of players have conversations.

Isn't anymore HS talent in 2023 worth recruiting so if Holland becomes available after asking for release - he's a take and we fill out the roster in the portal with impact needs.

WHICH PLAYER LEFT OFF THE ROSTERS DO YOU THINK BELONGS THERE MOST?
quote:
“I’m always hesitant to discuss 'snubs' because nobody knows how difficult things like this are better than I do. No matter what you do, people are going to be unhappy and complain. That said, I think a pretty good case could be made for Arkansas commit Layden Blocker, who has thrived on big stages and spent the last two seasons thriving against top-flight competition at Sunrise Christian. He is currently a key cog on a team that is arguably among the best in the country. Blocker is a true two-way guard that does a little bit of everything on the floor. I’m looking forward to seeing him in an All-American setting.” – Cassidy

WHICH PLAYER DO YOU THINK COULD SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RAISE HIS RANKING EXPONENTIALLY?
quote:
“Texas pledge Ron Holland is someone we’ve discussed bumping further up in the rankings next time around, and I think he will take matchups seriously in practices and will have a chance to really show out in this setting. The game is always up and down as well, and that’s where Holland thrives at his best, when running in transition. Another player I’m interested in seeing for the same reasons is Iowa State signee Omaha Biliew.” — Graf

Arkansas: “They look at me as an Anthony Black type of player with my skill set. I can shoot it pretty well and I’m very crafty. They have a great pro plan for me and coach (Eric) Musselman has done a great job in recruiting me. I go there for a visit March 5.”

Flowers headed from Lexington to Louisville on Saturday morning for an unofficial visit to Louisville for its game against Florida State. This will be the second time that he’s visited there in the last sixth months. Creighton has had a lot of positive momentum in this recruitment as of late and I’d view Arkansas and Alabama as the programs making the biggest push behind the Bluejays.

Trentyn Flowers, one of the top-ranked small forwards in the 2024 class, will take an official visit to Arkansas on March 3-5. This marks his fifth and final junior year official visit.
Flowers has also taken official visits to Louisville and Creighton, along with Oklahoma and Georgia State — two programs no longer being considered. The North Carolina Tar Heels hosted the 6-foot-8 recruit out of Combine Academy (N.C.) on an unofficial visit in October.
Flowers announced his final six schools in January: Alabama, Arkansas, Creighton, Louisville, North Carolina, and Kansas.
According to the On3 Consensus, Flowers ranks as the No. 19 overall prospect in the 2024 class. The On3 Consensus is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3). He’s also the No. 7 small forward in the country.
Flowers recently told On3 he is planning on a college commitment in the month of April.

I suspect that UK game will be a huge recruiting weekend.
And I'll be there.

PATE TRIPLE DOUBLES HIS WAY TO A TOUGH TEXAS VICTORY
quote:
Dink Pate is another prospect who performed well in a highly competitive matchup. Facing a state title contending team in Dallas (Texas) Carter, Pate reportedly posted a triple-double statline of 24 points, 15 rebounds, and ten assists. What is most impressive; however, is he did so while carrying his West Dallas (Texas) LG Pinkston team to a victory.
Without a doubt, Pate is easily one of the more talented prospects in the national junior class. He can play on and off the ball at 6-foot-8 and is already extremely skilled and productive with a high ceiling. Building off this momentum heading into the postseason will do wonders for his stock. He already is being pursued by a group of college basketball's best programs and is a target for the NBA's G-League Ignite program. A top-five type talent, Pate's level of play will likely carry on into the grassroots season as he has showed tremendous consistency throughout his junior campaign.
quote:
POTENTIAL DERECK LIVELY DISCIPLES IN THE 2023 CLASS?
Dereck Lively was arguably the top performer in the Duke-North Carolina rivalry game that took place this past weekend. His performance is a testament to how his recent level of play has matched the expectations of our staff when ranking him as the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2022. Posting Marcus Camby-like statlines that highlight his shotblocking prowess will solidify his status as a first round pick in this year's NBA Draft. With him Lively likely to bolt, who are the prospects in the 2023 class who could replace him in being a feared rim protector in college basketball?
quote:
A sleeper who also could achieve the feat will play his basketball in the SEC. Arkansas signee and McDonald's All-American Baye Fall's ability to protect the rim on defense is way ahead of his offense. He blocks shots giving maximum effort and will fly at opponents to make sure attempts are returned to sender. From day one, he should be an asset in Eric Musselman's defense.
