I thou title was wrapped up nicely but almost too much so given the mysterious way things unfolded over the season.
SUPER SPOILER ALERT:
I thought at first it all wrapped up too nicely but the more I think about it, I think it just wrapped up nicely only for Hart and Cohle.
All the little side things - the colony of prostitutes, the biker gang, the church/senator involvement, the entire cult -- all those things were just side stories in a bigger thing. I feel like that's how real investigations go. The main thing you're searching for gives way to all these little side things that are engrossing and can take all your attention away but aren't the focus of your investigation.
Hart and Cohle got their man and through that got some measure of personal redemption. Everything else in their investigation just isn't a part of their story, anymore, if that makes sense.

Man, I make some odd posts sometimes using iPad and autocorrect. I'm glad you deciphered it.
You have one of the most interesting and realistic takes I've seen. Most people are complaining about the loose ends not being tied up. I'm not sure sure they were all loose ends that needed tying, and really, it makes the whole thing more realistic to bring it down to earth. Sure there were odd things that arose during the investigation, but in the end we know who killed Lange and the mastermind of the cultish operation. The guys ride off into the sunset and the rest is just life.

the whole "loose end" angle really worked well, considering the last conversation they have in parking lot pretty much addresses this issue. im pretty well satisfied. having some king of closing montage that wraps everything up ala "the wire" wouldnt have worked for this story.

Time is a flat circle. They shot a cult member in the head and it's "case closed" all over again, just like in '95.

The conspiracies that I've researched and encountered, they seem to happen very ad hoc: they become conspiracies when it's necessary to have a conspiracy. I think it would have rang false to have Hart and Cohle suddenly clean up 50 years of the culture history that led to Errol Childress, or to get all the men in that video. It's important to me, I think, that Cohle says, "We didn't get em all, Marty," and Marty says, "We ain't going to. This isn't that kind of world." This isn't the kind of world where you mop up everything. We discharged our duty, but of course there are levels and wheels and historical contexts to what happened that we'll never be able to touch.

pretty good interview.

I called it when they first bumped into him. I thought, "That is going to end up being the murderer...him or MM."
First time chiming in, as I only started watching the show last week. I'm all caught up now. What a show. Loved MM and WH.
????SPOILERS???
I thought the end was very realistic. They'll never have the evidence needed to go after any of the higher-ups that might have been involved (MM was so distraught that they didn't get EVERYONE), but at least they got the "do'er."
Those last few scenes during the "hunt" were awesome...very suspenseful. And Errol or whatever his name was happened to be creepy as frick.

Did you know MM's first line on film was 'Alright, alright, alright.' in Dazed in Confused, which if you want to feel old came out 21 years ago.
"A man should smell like a man. I haven't worn deodorant in 20 years." - MM
Smells attractive?

The ending was reeeaally good. The character development in this series is remarkable.

I liked the finale. I don't understand the people that said there were too many "loose ends". Aside from the other cult members in the rape/murder video (which Cohle and Hart addressed), what loose ends are there? I think alot of the people complaining are mixing the red herrings of the show with the plot. Just because they think that some aspects were related (i.e. Hart's daughter, etc), doesn't mean they were.

Just saw the finale. Excellent show. No, not everything is wrapped up nicely at the end, or if it is wrapped up it ends up being a box of camels.
