Short version…

Coil is 100% back this weekend.
Maxwell is touch and go.
Souza done for season.
Wiggins likely done for year unless it’s the CWS.
Fraser seems unlikely anytime soon.

Some notes from SEC Weekly Baseball Update...

• Pitchers of the Week: Arkansas’ Zach Root twirled a career-long eight scoreless innings and tallied a career-high
11 strikeouts in the Hogs’ 9-0 series-opening shutout win
against Texas. The left-hander allowed only two hits and
issued a pair of walks, logging his team-leading fourth
quality start and earning his team-high sixth win of the
season in the process. LSU’s Anthony Eyanson fired a
brilliant complete-game three hitter on Saturday night in
a 2-1 victory at Texas A&M. He limited the Aggies to just
one run on three hits in 9.0 innings with one walk and 14
strikeouts.

• Three different SEC teams can claim No. 1 rankings in
the major polls this week. Texas remained No. 1 in the
D1Baseball rankings and the USA Today Coaches’ Poll,
while Georgia moved to No. 1 in the Baseball America
and Perfect Game Top 25 rankings. Arkansas took over
the No. 1 spot in this week’s NCBWA poll. A total of 11
SEC teams are ranked in the top-25 this week.

• This weekend’s SEC slate features four series between
nationally-ranked teams: No. 1 Georgia at No. 18 Alabama, No. 1 Arkansa at No. 3 LSU, No. 22 Florida at No. 1
Texas and No. 10 Vanderbilt at No. 8 Tennessee.
• SEC teams and individuals entering the week ranked
No. 1 statistically in the NCAA include:
» Georgia with 119 home runs
» Arkansas with a 3.68 strikeout-to-walk ratio
» Vanderbilt with 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings
» Tennessee’s Liam Doyle with 115 strikeouts

• Five SEC coaches rank among the winningest active
Division I coaches in the nation: Paul Mainieri (1st, 1,529
wins), Dave Van Horn (4th with 1,294 wins), Tim Corbin
(8th with 1,061 wins), Mike Bianco (9th with 1,039 wins)
and Jim Schlossnagle (11th with 984 wins).

Sounds like my kid. Her first year of live arm and she realized she gets a free base if she gets hit, so she crowds that plate as much as she can.

I like being matched up with UCLA, but that would be a pretty brutal regional to get there.

Interesting strategy from that D1baseball crew...

"Arkansas deserves to be ranked #7, but two days later lets put them as the #2 overall seed."

I think that says more about how they think we'll finish than where we are right now. I still feel like we won't lose either of the final series. I think we go 4-2 to finish.

I posted this in the SECr's ranking thread...

Found this interesting when talking about best wins in the league...schedule strength, etc.

25 games against RPI Top 25 teams is crazy for Vandy. 14 of those games have been away from home.
13 of 16 RPI Top 25 games have been on the road for Arkansas
Texas has had 10 of their 15 Top 25 RPI games at home. 2 others were played in Arlington, TX. 3 more coming this weekend against Florida at home.
Georgia has had 10 of their 19 games away from home
LSU has had 10 of their 16 away from home
Ole Miss has only had 6 of their 18 away from home
Oklahoma has had 8 of their 18 away from home
aTm has had 13 of their 20 away from home
Florida has only been away from home for 8 of their 18 games
State has been away from home 14 times against RPI Top 25 teams

Record vs. Top 25 RPI
Vanderbilt 13-11
Arkansas 11-5
Tennessee 10-6
Georgia 10-9
Auburn 10-9
Texas 9-6
LSU 9-7
Ole Miss 9-9
Alabama 7-9
Oklahoma 6-12
aTm 6-14
Florida 5-13
State 5-15

Love the new format of the SEC tournament. It never should have been double elimination.

It will still be taxing for teams not in the top 4...but if you are in the top 4, it is just a normal baseball weekend for you...3 games possibly, using just your normal rotation.

I think you'll see a lot more interest from the top 4 teams. Like you say it's just a regular weekend.

How it should be. Should make it more of a thing to gun for now.

The dumbest shite was when it would double elim, then went to single elim in the semis

In the past DVH has put little to no effort in the SEC tournament.

Maybe this year will be different, who knows.
I do prefer this format as a fan.

Really hard to say, DBU and Missouri State are in absolutely awful 1 bid conferences. Very hard to gauge how good either of them are, MSU is bad IMO but DBU has had a lot of good teams over the last few years but holy hell C-USA is nothing but scrubs every weekend. Kansas may pose the biggest threat of those 3 but even they just got swept last weekend by Cincinnati and gave up 31 runs on Sat/Sun and Cincy is not good. They also got swept by TCU and lost 2 of 3 to ASU, so basically every good team has spanked them. Much better/different than drawing a red hot TCU or KSU.
