Damn, at this point I'd have rather eaten a loss than battle back and take it extras.

Our pitching and depth is too thin to play frick-around in otherwise meaningless midweeks.

Same as basketball in the Rock. If it isn't at tWardump it isn't and hasn't been on TV Rev.

The obvious difference being that DVH doesn’t care much about midweek games nor should he, especially with this team’s nonexistent pitching depth and injury epidemic.

Grimes and Neville are a combined 0-5 with 4 K’s in this game.

Grimes is our stopgap guy while we wait to get Wegner and Josenberger back, but he’s been a glaring hole at the plate. He’s 0 for his last 12 with 10 strikeouts dating back to the Georgia series.

I actually like that he is getting some younger players some experience.

win or lose, need to see what they have in game situations!

On the bright side, Morris had another good outing so maybe he is getting it together. 3 weeks ago he would have walked 3 or 4 and given up a couple of runs in 2 innings.

Have we ever won a game in that park? Seems like we lose there every year.

And basketball is subject to lay an egg in n Little Rock

Any ideas about the arm injuries?

Will we see changes at strength coach or in-season weight training?

Can't be from only throwing pitches or usage.

We changed strength & conditioning coaches in the fall when Blaine Kinsley left for a job in the Cubs' minor league organization.

I have a feeling there's going to be a full assessment and overhaul of the new guy's program in the summer and fall, similar to what the Yankees did a few years ago when they had an insane amount of injuries.

Morris and Coil emerging (or in Morris's case re-emerging) from the pen would be a huge relief.

However, Foutch seems to have collapsed. He hasn't retired a single batter in his last 12 faced, which spans 4 outings dating back to Game 3 at Georgia.

Our pitching staff seems to be 1 step forward and 1 step back. Coil emerges but Foutch collapses. Morris regains form but Bybee regresses. Get Tygart back but lose Carter.

ETA: in the postgame last night, DVH basically said verbatim that he didn’t feel comfortable putting Foutch in in a weekend game right now. Also, look for Hunter Hollan to potentially be moved to a Saturday start this weekend to get him an extra day of rest, and we’ll probably see another opener situation with McEntire coming in after 1 or 2 in order to improve his chances of getting to the 7th.

This seems concerning, especially since we played Thurs-Fri-Sat last weekend so he would’ve already been on 8 days. Did it seem like fatigue/soreness was an issue?

Didn’t sound concerning, more just a desire to squeeze out one more day of rest on a stretch run. DVH thought he looked tired his last two outings against A&M and Georgia and his velo was down a bit.

I think the shift from Friday to Thursday between the Tennessee and Georgia weeks messed with him a bit because he lost a day between starts, which screws with your preparation. He’s not the only one. DVH also said McEntire looked tired on Friday against A&M when he took him out, and said it was the first time Mac hasn’t argued to stay in when he came to the mound.

I think our pitching staff is just exhausted right now. The injuries have put the most pressure on them, and they’re largely finding a way to scratch out wins. Oddly enough, I’m hoping we go 2 and out in Hoover to get a few extra days of rest before the regional like we did last year. If I’m DVH I’m starting Foutch and Bybee in the SEC tourney and scratching most of my good arms.
