I say they get free school, free lodging, free food and a ton of other benefits that their peers on campus don't get. They may not get paid in cold hard cash but they're getting paid.

And honestly, a lot of the players are probably getting paid in cash too.

So he wants to steal a kid who graduates in May and doesn't even have a profile in any recruiting services?

Nashville 2017 RB/ATH Darius Hopkins:Interview

quote:

One of the top athletes regardless of position coming out of the state of Arkansas in the 2017 class is Darius Hopkins – which is a strong statement considering the wealth of talent within the Natural State this year.

Hopkins fits the bill as that next level change of pace back, scat-back, or all-purpose back who could line up in the slot if needed. The 6’1”, 189 pound, talent showed his worth during the 2015 season rushing for 1,614 yards off 202 carries with 27 touchdowns scored on the ground. He added five receptions for 69 yards in the passing game and got some time in at safety finishing with 13 tackles along with two picks taking back the errant passes 124 yards in total the other way.

The 1,600-plus yards was not a one-time flash in the pan kind of year. Hopkins enters his senior year with over 3,000 career rushing yards having found the end zone 37 total times on the ground with 41 trips to the end zone in various highlight reel fashions. The Nashville High School rising star is fast, especially in the open field, and elusive.

Interest has come in from teams like Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Memphis, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Houston. With another season to showcase his skill set, this Scrapper is due for an all-state caliber campaign certain to force college coaches to take notice.

In a Recruiting News Guru interview, I was able to get answers on Hopkins off-season workouts, camp circuit, and a quick overview on how Nashville looks heading into the 2016 schedule.

From RDs article on Larry Boyd, seems like we are in good shape with him.

He is wanting to come down next week.

quote:

"[Boyd] loves Arkansas," Patterson said. "He just likes the school. There's a few St. Louis guys down there playing on the line, so it just seems like it would be a good place. We were trying to find a way to get him down there so he can meet with coach

quote:

"He loves Coach B, you can tell that when we're talking," Patterson said. "I've never met Coach B before, but he talks about Coach B like Coach B is the guy. I'm excited to meet him."

I would love to land Boyd if we can. It would be nice to get an OL from Missouri pipeline going.

Calling the Hogs: Arkansas’ Michael Smith responds to LSU fan video
quote:

Coach Smith comments on LSU fan video

A humorous video recently posted on YouTube by “LSU DAD” labels Arkansas as poachers for coming into Louisiana and signing recruits to take back north.

The Razorbacks signed four players from The Boot last season with three more already committed to the 2017 class. The recruiting in Louisiana is spearheaded by wide receivers coach Michael Smith, a New Orleans native with vast knowledge of the state.

“I actually did see it today when our video guys brought it to me,” Smith said Thursday after practice. “I think that’s great for him to have that attention, and if he believes I’m poaching my own state then that’s what it is. I take it as a compliment. I do. They’re paying attention, that’s a good thing.”

LSU DAD jokingly suggests he helped Arkansas find recruits at New Orleans’ St. Augustine High School when he showed a Razorbacks fan where the school was located. Arkansas signed St. Augustine linebacker Giovanni LaFrance in the 2016 class.

“He doesn’t know that’s where my dad went to school,” Smith said. “I know them very well. They were also in the Catholic league, the league I played in.”

from Matt Jones

quote:

Arkansas baseball received a verbal commitment from an Illinois left-hander on Wednesday.

Steven Sanchez (6-foot-8, 230 pounds) is a junior at Mundelein High School. He is ranked the 10th-best prospect in the state of Illinois by PrepBaseballReport.com. He is the 13th player to commit to Arkansas in the class of 2018, according to a database at HogNation.net.

According to his PrepBaseballReport.com profile, Sanchez has a fastball that has been clocked at 87 mph and also throws a curveball and a change-up. His team was state runner-up earlier this year.

That's the second commit Lovie has gotten it of St. Louis in the past few days. I'm sure Mizzou fans love that.

I bet we can flip him late if we need to and/or his academics aren't as big a issue as Hawgeye said.
