That might be a harsh way of putting it, but I would agree that particularly with high school coaches in St. Louis there isn't a sense of pride sending their kids to the state school. I don't think they historically have pushed kids that direction.

Here in Springfield there is as many Hog fans as Mizzou fans if not more, and that goes for the whole area.

Further North in KC and STL it's few and far between that care.

Have the Hogs in Springfield. KC is split with the kansas schools and Nebraska. St. Louis gets recruited hard by the Big 10 (Iowa and Illinois particularly) and that damn team to our immediate south.

This would be my question to reedus (thanks for the kudos, and hats off to you guys for this past season) -- why is it that the state seems to be so factioned? It seems like South Missouri seems to lean either Arkansas or to outlying states and the cities don't seem to give a rip about college football? Who knows, maybe I just don't know shizz about anything MO outside of Joplin, but that's always been a question of mine.

How much did he see the field? I don't remember seeing much of him at all.

Did he even stay at DE?

I think this was just an odd year for Mizzou. They had a less than spectacular year last season and I think a lot of instate kids probably thought that was going to become the norm in the SEC so they opened up their options. At one point it looked like Missouri was going to get none of the top 10 instate guys but they closed on a couple after they had their great season.

I think they will capitalize on this year and do much, much better instate next season.

Yeah they'll get Lock who is a Top 5 QB and the #1 player in the State is in Columbia so and a WR so they should be able to keep him home I would hope.

This last year was a bit different. Bauer is a good example. Not just because of the losing season, but because of the uncertainty that it created with the staff, he decommitted and chose Ole Miss. He didn't want to go to Mizzou and play for someone he didn't know and who didn't recruit him. Once this last season went along and it became apparent that Pinkel and staff were not in jeopardy, he switched back to Mizzou. I'm sure that played a part in it.

I will say that in St. Louis, the general vibe has improved tremendously simply by joining the SEC. St. Louis and KC will always be pro sports cities and that takes away from some of the pride in sending kids to the state school, but the perception of Mizzou is slowly but surely changing with time. Having said that, Arkansas, kU, KSU, Nebraska, Iowa and others will always be able to pull kids out of Missouri. We may not be a hot bed of football talent, but when you compare to the surrounding states like kansas, Nebraska, Iowa etc...we put out more players than probably any of them.

Signed 3 DE's. McWilliams who Florida put a late push on for. Spencer Williams flipped from Cincy and Brady out of Alabama. Brady is only a 2* but I trust our staff in finding guys when it comes to that position.

I banged my head about zero DT's but if you look at our classes, 2012 and 2013 had just a ton of DT's. We will definitely have to land some next year though.

Nope, you're pretty much right on. KC and STL are pro sports towns, though that has been changing with the move to the SEC. They just talked about Mizzou's recruiting class for the last hour on the radio here in St. Louis. That NEVER happened before joining the SEC.

Anyways, really hope to see Rafe under center in the near future. Even if they don't choose Mizzou, I like to see the Missouri kids do well elsewhere.

I've been in St. Louis on the first Saturday of the season, every sports bar you would go into would have only B1G games on the Tvs, then Mizzou when they were playing Illinois (gives the time frame of when I was there). The only time they didn't have B1G games on was when Iowa St. was playing or the Cardinals were playing.

Agree totally, and Missouri is sort of like Mississippi in that it's a pretty underrated hotbed of talent that tends to be overlooked by fans simply because there's no one school just locking it down. If either MSU or Ole Miss got every recruit that came out of the state of Mississippi, they'd be pretty damn good on a consistent basis, and I'd say the same for Missouri and its in-state recruits.
