Its amazing what kids will believe without doing any research. It takes two minutes to jump on espn.com and see how often their TE's get the ball.
We lost a bad arse TE to Ole Miss like that two classes ago. They told him they were getting the TE more involved going forward and that they were going to throw as much to the TE as Georgia and Arkansas according to him.
He believed it and cited this numerous times as the reason why he committed. He racked up 12 catches for 166 yards and 1 TD starting in that new TE focused offense while our starter had a measly 41 catches.

Should we keep a running total on the guys we've lost/will lose because of firing Petrino?
j/k I'm sure that already has its own thread on HV.

I think this should be it that we actually know of first hand. I'm sure there are guys that dropped us from their top 5/8/10 or whatever but he was really the only guy that was a sure fire commit.
On the bright side though, sunshine pumping glasses fully on, Henry and Tenpenny both seem to actually be more interested in us post Petrino firing.

Call me what you want but I think the CBMFP experiment has worked well in our favor. 1) No doubt that he was a shitty person, bound to F it up sooner or later. 2) We got out of it w/o paying the buyout. 3) Save for the PR hit, we shifted fault to the 2 people involved, JL did the right thing, took the right steps, and made the right decisions keeping our integrity intact.
4) We're a top 10 team with stacks of cash to burn and still making a solid football only profit. 5) We've shaken the Identity of being led by a clown goober and have the identity of a bad-arse offensive pro team that puts QB and players in the league. 6) Expanded the brand nationally, we now recruit coast to coast and will have to do more of the same. 7) The building blocks for a Frank Broyles type personality with the coaching chops to back it up have been set. BP strentgthened the foundation and taught the ADMIN how to run a top notch program in the modern day, no more settling for the best we think we can get.

yeah, James, Bennett and Morgan are about the only ones that I think we can confidently chalk up as losses due to Petrino's firing.
May be others, but they will be ones that we never thought we had anyway.

There was a RB that committed to ole miss. Said we would've picked us if Petrino didn't get canned too.

We can always just load up on 3 star athletes a la Nutt this year

Sorry about the brief absence. Had to hold CenturyTel up at gunpoint to get them to fix my internet.
Now back to things that matter, how much of a cushion do you think Arkansas has before the offense starts tumbling downhill? Austin Allen is huge for replacing Wilson, but how big is the window before our WR's/HB's start falling behind?

Well first we need Brandon Allen to step up...
Wingo & Walker & Williams need to step up too.
We are ok at receiver for a couple years IMO

HB is what makes me nervous. I think we're good at QB/WR but after this season we will have pretty much been riding the same 3 RB's for the last 4 years. Thats a scary thought because for all we know our RB recruiting could have been horrible and we just don't know it.

This cushion you speak of can and should be nil.
Long needs to make sure he hires a guy that can come in and win immediately with the talent that is here. I know there's not a BP clone, but we've got to get a similar guy.
I've laid my criteria out before, but here it is again.
1) clean image. No shennanagins. The sluts on the hill make it hard, we've got a history of coaches letting the ego and the easy girls get to them. All of our little towns in state send their cream to Fayetteville and they just go buck wild when they get here.
2) Personality to sell the program, win over mommas and poppas, get national air time and charm the masses, accept the media and use them for the tools they are rather than making them the enemy. This isn't a Broyles - Orville type of thing, but having the CEO savvy and the coaching chops to back it up.
3) Pro Style innovative and leading edge type of approach to the O, the D, the program, the admin, everything. BP gave us a new identity that we must capitalize on. That is the biggest thing we gained from hiring him, a new cut-throat attitude and approach to the game. The style CBP brought plays well into the type of talent our HS' and recruiting bases are putting out. We don't have as deep a well as other programs in other areas of the country, hence the national recruiting scope. The coast to coast recruiting must continue.
4) Eye for talent and efficient evaluation, and the ability to squeeze every last drop of ability out of a player. The practice pace was a sprint compared to most all programs, the film sessions, the scheming, the approach, and the commitment to the players, university, fans, and state have to be unwavering.
5) Just as JFB said, a winner. Gotta be a winner, have to have known nothing but winning. All the pieces of the puzzle are there to keep us in the top 10 and keep us gaining ground on the programs that are winning championships.

I think Williams/Roberts will be a pretty good RB combo from that class. Not sure if Walker will ever amount to anything but a goal line back though. Hatcher and Cowan are our WRs of the future but not sure who would be behind them yet.
Nathan Holmes could be a wildcard...i think he could play WR or RB if we needed him to

quote:Wingo isn't stepping up anytime soon. I've already accepted that fact. Whenever the timing is perfect for Wingo to secure his spot as a feature back, he folds like a house of cards. Walker & Williams the jury is still out. I think we need to recruit a quality back within the next two years to keep from reverting back to the '09 offense. Receiver really just depends on how the young guns handle the starting roles this season. We could either be really comfortable, or really hurting. Cobi and Gragg will be able to take up a lot of slack if there are a few duds in the group, but next year all of that goes away.
Wingo & Walker & Williams need to step up too.

answer is in the coaching search thread, I kinda derailed. I think the coaching search is paramount to recruiting, and the offensive dropoff should be very little as long as we hire the right guy that has the system to capitalize on the talent we already have.
