Why was a flag thrown on Evans but not Allen?

The tackles on Allen were like back to back I think and were identical. How was one a penalty and not the other?

I think one was running and was caught from behind below the waste. Just my view from the couch. This call should be if they go low from the side or the front of the knees but not the back of the knees. Kapish?

I think it was because Allen was out of the pocket and running when Allen hit him.

The call on Evans was straight garbage. Basically called it roughing because the hit looked painful.

It was called roughing because it was below the waist. I don't necessarily like the rule, but I think the call was correct. I don't think that was his intent, but that was far from the worse call in the game.

The only issue with the call on Evans is that the OL pushed him down, otherwise he would have hit him high. bullshite to call the penalty on Evans.

Details of the rule here.

quote:

Exceptions for these types of hits occur when:

the passer becomes a runner, either inside or outside the tackle box

the defender grabs or wraps the passer in an attempt to make a conventional tackle

the defender is not rushing unabated or is blocked or fouled into the passer.

Doesn't seem to me that Evans should've been flagged.

Correct answer. It was a terrible and incorrect call, which is why Saban went nuts.

Can't hit 'em high.

Can't hit 'em low.

Give 'em a tutu and blow them a kiss.
