Lemngole, Williams Shine on Final Day of Multi-Meet Weekend as School Records Fall

Lemngole broke the UA record in the women’s 3,000m – in Boston – after clocking the NCAA’s fifth-fastest run all time in the event (8:41.83), while Williams extended her UA shot put record (17.79m | 58-4.50) in Fayetteville, Ark.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Breaking records is nothing new for Alabama track and field's Doris Lemngole and Mye'Joi Williams. The Crimson Tide's distance runner and thrower highlighted the final day of a busy weekend for UA that included representation across three meets, in three different states, over two days.

Two months after becoming the women's 5,000-meter collegiate leader in Boston, Lemngole returned to Beantown, this time with her sight set on the 3,000m. Running a blistering 8:41.83, the Tide's standout phenom was the only collegiate runner to place in the top seven, effectively breaking the UA school record. Lemngole finished 0.03 seconds behind Australian distance runner and Olympic finalist Lauren Ryan, who out-leaned Lemngole at the finish line. The Alabama sophomore now holds the NCAA's fifth all-time fastest performance in the event, all time, and is currently the collegiate leader in both the women's 3,000m and 5,000m as postseason approaches.

Meanwhile, a few states west, Crimson Tide women's shot putter Mye'Joi Williams made yet another edit to Alabama's record list on Saturday. Competing at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Williams extended her school-record shot put mark for the second consecutive meet, launching a 17.79-meter (58-4.50) throw on her fourth attempt.

Men are looking like 8th place... girls are a toss up between 5-8, likely erring towards the better finish. There's more wiggle room in the middle of the pack women's teams than the men's side.

Yesterday I came pretty close to saying we wouldn't see 10 diving points the entire meet... but we had both men's 3m divers make b finals. Colton Cryer at 13th and Nigel Chambers at 16th. My anti diving sentiments could still pan out, but they could be proven incorrect tonight.

This meet has been a real interesting preview into the future of sec swimming and diving. Next year we get a 22 person roster limit. It's the same limit teams are burdened with at SECs, but for the entire season. Texas left 4 guys at home who've already swam NCAA B cuts. Their portal situation is gonna be wild. The House vs NCAA settlement ended up at 30 roster spots, but the SEC said frick that, 22 for the season. NCAAs limits teams to only 18 qualifiers, so texas is gonna have to frick over another 4 guys between now and NCAAs. I honestly don't think there's enough elite coaching to go around, but i hate the conference has opted to burden us significantly more than the guidelines allow. ACC is rocking with the 30 limit and it's gonna show up bigly over the next couple years. NC state, Cal, and Indiana are gonna feast... and uva women.

The Alabama swimming and diving team captured a pair of school records and a facility record on the second day of the Southeastern Conference Championships.

The men's 800 freestyle relay team topped the prior UA standard by nearly three seconds in the event, while Charlie Hawke's leadoff time bettered his 200 freestyle time. Hawke's leadoff split would also set the Gabrielsen Natatorium record.

After the second day of competition, the Alabama men's team ranks sixth with a score of 118, while the women's team sits in 10th with a score of 86.

The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded the Southeastern Conference Championships with a silver medal and a school record.

Avery Wiseman recorded a silver medal in the 200 breaststroke to pace the Crimson Tide on the final day of competition. The second-place finish was the best for the UA senior in the event and her second-career podium finish after placing third in the 200 breaststroke in 2023.

Zarek Wilson, Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves and Toni Dragoja, surpassed the Alabama 400 freestyle relay standard to pace the men's side of competition.

Both teams finished sixth in the standings as the men's squad recorded 667 points and the women's team tallied 620.
