In SEC play - have won a total of 5 sets - 1 set in 5 different matches — out of 50 total sets played. Swept in the other 10 matches.

That is just sad and probably in the running for the worst athletic team of all time in the SEC

The No. 22/21 Alabama swimming and diving teams concluded the fall portion of 2023-24 season with a school record and a third-place finish on both sides of the competition at the Tennessee Invite.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Zarek Wilson, Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves and Tim Korstanje highlighted the day with a school record as Tommy Hagar secured a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. On the women's side, Cadence Vincent tallied her second individual third-place finish with her performance in the 100-yard freestyle.

The No. 21 UA women's team finished the meet in third place with 591 points, behind No. 1 Virginia (1,107) and No. 18 Tennessee (857.5). The No. 22 Crimson Tide men recorded 702.5 points for a third-place finish as No. 14 Tennessee (1,216) and No. 12 Virginia (855.5) took first and second.

As only a freshman, Doris Lemngole ended her rookie campaign with a national runner-up finish at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Teammate Hilda Olemomoi also logged a top-four finish as the distance duo propelled the Alabama women's cross country program to a seventh-place team finish – the Crimson Tide's second consecutive top-10 finish and the fourth straight year with a top-15 placement.

Competing individually, Victor Kiprop (29:31.5) finished in the top 20 of the men's 10K race, while Hillary Cheruiyot (30:33.1) clocked a top-100 finish.

Joining Lemngole (19:05.7) and Olemomoi (19:22.1) in the top 55 was Joy Gill (53rd | 20:15.0) who helped lead Alabama to its top-seven team finish. The Crimson Tide was one of four Southeastern Conference programs to finish in the top 10 of the women's 6K race, joining Florida (fifth), Tennessee (sixth) and Arkansas (ninth).

The Crimson Tide concluded Friday with three runners earning All-America honors for their top-40, individual finishes. Lemngole (second) and Olemomoi (third) made the women's list, while Kiprop (20th) earned recognition on the men's side.

DEREK MAAS TOPS RANKINGS IN… BACKSTROKE?

Despite being the 2022 SEC Champion in both breaststroke events, Alabama transfer Derek Maas took on a surprising line-up at Chicago’s Phoenix Fall Classic. Maas entered the 100 back (46.55), 200 back (1:43.75), and 200 IM (1:44.23), winning all three in dominating fashion. He now ranks 1st in the 100 back, 2nd in the 200 back, and solidifies his #1 rank in the 200 IM while getting within five-hundredths of Andrew Wilson’s D3a record. Maas holds a best time of 46.33 in the 100 back, but the last time he swam the 200 back was in 2017 (per USA Swimming database). He now ranks 4th all-time in D3 in the 100 back and 5th in the 200 back.

Maas also contributed a 21.35 lead-off leg to NYU’s 200 medley relay, which now leads the nation (1:27.37). That would have been the 3rd fastest split in the field at NCAAs, and the overall time is nearly two seconds faster than NYU’s best last season. Maas also contributed to the rest of NYU’s sprint relays, including a 52.06 breaststroke split on their 400 medley.

Damn those fast times are painful to see, but he'll do more good in the world killing it at med school than bumping our swim team from like 22nd to 15th at NCAAs. I appreciate the update, apparently it hasn't popped up in my fb feed or I already scrolled by it and missed it.
