The Alabama track and field teams are set to split up for the second time this outdoor season, as the Crimson Tide will compete at the Tom Jones Memorial, hosted by conference foe Florida, while a contingent of distance runners head out west to California for the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Alabama will begin its multi-meet weekend on Thursday night (11:35 p.m. CT) at the Bryan Clay Invitational in the women's 10,000-meter run featuring Elka Machan, Mercy Chelangat and Hilda Olemomoi. It will be the outdoor season debut for both Chelangat and Olemomoi who are coming off first-team All-American performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The Alabama men's program enters the weekend ranked No. 7, nationally, in the USTFCCCA week three rankings.

Where is Arkansas? Not even Top Twenty? How did this happen?
That being said I would like us to win at least ONE National Championship in track. Please please please!

Tarsis Orogot Named USTFCCCA Men’s National Athlete of the Week, SEC Men’s Runner of the Week

The Ugandan clocked the third-fastest, all-conditions mark in collegiate history for the 200 meters, fastest all-condition time by any African in history

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field's Tarsis Orogot was named Men's National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, as well as Men's Runner of the Week by the Southeastern Conference, after his noteworthy, 200-meter performance at the Tom Jones Memorial.

On the first day of the meet, Orogot put on a showing in the 200-meter dash in Gainesville, Fla., clocking a blistering, 19.60 (+2.9) time en route to the event title. Not only was his performance the third-fastest, all-conditions mark in collegiate history for the event, but it was also the fastest, all-conditions time by any African in history.

The Soroti, Uganda, native is the first from Alabama to earn conference recognition this season and is the second male athlete from the Crimson Tide – in as many years – to be named National Athlete of the Week by the USTFCCCA during the outdoor season. Eliud Kipsang earned nati ional honors last year following his record-breaking performance in the 1,500 meters.

Alabama Upsets Mississippi State in Second Round of SEC Tournament

The Crimson Tide advances to the quarterfinals to face third-seeded Kentucky at 9 a.m. CT on Friday

The Alabama men's tennis team defeated 15th-nationally ranked and sixth seed in the Southeastern Conference Tournament, Mississippi State, with a 4-3 victory on Thursday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

Alabama (12-14, 4-9 SEC) secured the opening point, posting victories from Enzo Aguiard and Zach Foster on court two and Joao Ferreira and Yair Sarouk, who took a 7-1 tiebreak win, on court three, respectively.

Mississippi State (19-7, 7-5 SEC) would win back-to-back singles matches at courts four and one, which included a tiebreaker on court one, to take a 2-1 lead. Zach Foster, court five, and Matias Ponce De Leon, court three, moved Alabama back in front at 3-2. Mississippi State would once again tie the match with a win on court two, but Yair Sarouk clinched the win for the Tide with a three-set victory on court six.

Alabama Track and Field Set to Host Crimson Tide Invitational

The weekend will also feature alumni reunion festivities in addition to Senior Day recognition on Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The outdoor season rolls on this weekend for the Alabama track and field teams, this time, though, on their home track. The Crimson Tide Invitational will run Friday (April 21) to Saturday (April 22) at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.

The weekend will also feature alumni reunion festivities throughout the two days, as well as a Senior Day recognition for Alabama's graduating class on Saturday afternoon. Alabama track and field alumni are encouraged to register for this weekend's events on RollTide.com.

Both the men's and women's programs enter the weekend ranked in the top-15, nationally, as the men come in at No. 4 while the women enter as the 13th-ranked squad.

Earlier this week, standout sprinter Tarsis Orogot was named National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, as well as Men's Runner of the Week by the Southeastern Conference following his blistering 19.60 (+2.9) 200-meter time en route to the Tom Jones event title. Not only was his performance the third-fastest, all-conditions mark in collegiate history for the event, it was also the fastest, all-conditions time by any African in history.
