Alabama Track & Field Opens 2022 Outdoor Season at Florida Relays and Stanford Invitational
Alabama track and field is set to begin the 2022 outdoor season this weekend, with a large contingent heading to Gainesville, Fla., while a pair of distance aces head to Palo Alto, Calif.
The Tide will send a pair of distance runners to compete at the Stanford Invitational, while most of the team competing this weekend will be at the Florida Relays.
Things open in Gainesville Thursday with the men's hammer throw at 4 p.m. CT. Alabama starts day two of the Florida Relays with the women's hammer throw Friday at 11 a.m. CT. The men's discus opens the final day of competition in Gainesville on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT. Days 2 and 3 of the Florida Relays will be streamed via ESPN+.
In California, the Crimson Tide will compete in the men's 10,000 meters Friday, starting at 7:45 p.m. CT.
In all, a total of 53 student-athletes will be on the road representing Alabama this weekend.

Alabama track and field got the 2022 outdoor season off to a strong start in a pair of meets across the country on Friday.
At the Stanford Invitational, rookie Victor Kiprop made his collegiate debut in the 10,000 meters, turning in a 28:15.72, which makes him the second fastest man in Alabama history and third in the nation this season.
At the Florida Relays, Kieran McKeag and Elka Machan posted silver-medal finishes in the men's hammer throw and the women's 5,000 meters, respectively. McKeag used a career-best throw of 69.71 meters to take second. His throw moved him to third all-time at UA. Machan posted a 16:33.48 and was the first or three UA runners to finish in the top-10 in the event.

Alabama Swimming and Diving’s Rhyan White Wins San Antonio Pro Series 200 Backstroke Title
White was one of three Crimson Tide swimmers to reach a championship final of the TYR Pro Series’ San Antonio stop
Just two weeks after helping lead Alabama to a program-best fourth-place finish at the 2022 Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, a trio of UA women enjoyed a big weekend at the TYR Pro Series in San Antonio, Texas.
U.S. Olympian, World Champion and All-American Rhyan White led the way for the Crimson Tide, winning the 200-meter backstroke over fellow Olympian Phoebe Bacon by more than a second and a half, turning in a 2:07.92 in the championship final. In addition, White took second in the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:00.05, while also winning the consolation final of the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.07) and taking ninth place overall.
Olympian, World Championships competitor and All-American Diana Petkova earned spots in the championship finals of the 200-meter individual medley (2:16.11), where she took fourth, and in the 50-meter freestyle (25.56), where she finished sixth.
Olympian, World Championships competitor and All-American Kalia Antoniou took fourth in the 50-meter freestyle, turning in a 25.25 in finals. She also took ninth overall in the 100-meter freestyle after winning the B final with a 55.03.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field rolls into week two of the 2022 outdoor campaign with a twin bill, sending squads to Oxford, Miss., and Baton Rouge, La.
A contingent of jumpers will head to Baton Rouge, La., for the Joe May Invitational (April 9) while a group of throwers will head to Oxford, Miss, for the Joe Walker Invitational (April 8-9). Runners, both distance and sprinters, will split up and head to both sites to compete. Overall, the Crimson Tide will have 70 athletes compete in 32 different events.
Alabama's first meet of the season, the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., was cut short due to inclement weather, making this the Tide's first full weekend of outdoor competition.
The Tide rolls into action Friday at 1 p.m. CT with the women's hammer throw and wraps up with the men's 5,000 meters at 8:20 p.m. CT at the Joe Walker Invitational.
