Alford wasn't that bad. He was underwhelming at UCLA, but three Sweet 16s isn't something to turn your nose up too.

I'd imagine Arkansas fans would be pretty underwhelmed with that hire though. Going from a candidate like Sampson to him isn't easy to register.

UCLA had to know they had no shot at Cal. UK has backed Cal every year, and even he's said previously he isn't leaving. We learned from Battle's extravagant adventure to get Marshall that if you don't land the big name HC, not a lot of other coaches are going to line up to fill the void. It's hard to sell to a good coach to run your program when it's already been made to the public that he wasn't your #1 choice.

We have about 15 names out there at this point. Our Ad has done a great job. No one has a real clue what is going on.

Why the HELL isn't anyone after Bruce? If they knew the shitshow he walked into and turned around...seriously, why isn't he on anyone's radar?

I think UCLA is being the notoriously cheap bastards they are known for. Just listen to Rick Neuheisel talk about his time in Westwood and you'll shake your head at some of the things they did. They want Ritz Carlton results for Holiday Inn funds. They don't want to get into a pissing contest with Auburn because they would bow out pretty quickly. Why would Dixon take that job? He's at his alma mater, he has little pressure since TCU isn't a basketball school and he's doing OK there. Cronin, I'm still not sold on. I still say he took the basketball machine that is Cincy and just didn't screw it up. He was smart enough to leave things on autopilot and he's won enough to be of interest. I don't think he's a home run. I'm very surprised Musselman isn't on their short list.

Probably because they contacted Bruce's agent and he's already shut it down. One of my old HS friends said Bruce is building a house on Lake Martin. Might as well accept that sweaty Pearl is there for the long run.

Glad Byrne went out and hired Oats when he could. This program was dying for a coach to come in and change the culture. One more year of Avery would have set it back for more than a couple of years.
