West Oaks Academy (Fla.) forward Matt Bewley is a name to get familiar with. The class of 2023 five-star is currently listed at 6-foot-8 and has a diverse skill set, athleticism, rim protection, and the ability to take defenders off the dribble. He is currently ranked No. 3 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite ranking and has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Florida State among others. Since it's still very early in his recruitment he has only spoken to Auburn and Florida State so far.

Bewley also has a twin brother Ryan Bewley who he plans on playing with at the next level.

“Man it's good, I love playing with my brother we both grew up together, I love him,” Bewely said. “I know his game, he knows mine, so we just work well together. While its very early Auburn has been one of the programs Bewley has been able to briefly speak with.

“It was a regular conversation,” he said. “We just talked and he let me know about the school. They are a really good school and my family and I have to sit and talk, to see where they want us to go but I think they're a really good school.”

Along with his brother, Bewley plays with unsigned seniors AJ Neal and Wesley Cardet among other talented prospects. He has set a goal of working on his game and winning a state championship.

“Right now I'm just working on shooting the ball more to get to the next level,” he said. “For the next level, it's just shooting. If you shoot a lot, players will back off you so you have to learn how to shoot off the dribble. I’m working on my handle, getting the ball and making a move, and getting by my defender. My goal is definitely to win states, I want to help my team get there. I havent won states yet and last year we got upset at my old school but I'm looking forward to winning big this year.”

It's still very early in Bewley’s recruitment but he will be seeking a program that's best for him and his brother and will help get them to the next level.

Bewley is currently ranked No. 3 nationally and the No. 1 power forward in the class of 2023 according to the industry generated 247Sports composite ranking.

Texas has made its case for having one of the strongest basketball areas in the nation. As for the future classes coming through Texas, the state’s 2022 and 2023 classes are screaming of potential. The 2023 class has one of its headliners in McKinney (TX) native Ja’Kobe Walter.

Your prototypical (currently) 6-foot-5 guard, Walter oozes potential and it starts with his offensive prowess. He could score at all three levels and read a defense really well. His length at the guard position is also scary from an opposing team's perspective. Walter is still growing and already has a large wingspan for a guard.

His recruitment at this stage for a 2023 prospect is quite impressive. He’s already landed several key regional offers and is now landing interest from several out-of-state programs. One program discussed is Alabama, where Walter was born.

“Alabama, Texas A&M, SMU, Memphis, Baylor, Oklahoma, and TCU are my offers.”

How about newer programs?

“Lately Texas and Michigan have been involved, I talked to them both twice. Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Minnesota are also interested.”

Thoughts on Texas’ program? What would it be like to play for UT?

“Texas is the state where I grew up in and where my family stays now, so I’m not into the staying close to home thing (laughs) but I do want my family to come to watch me play live it is very intriguing.”

How about another regional program like SMU?

“SMU is also close to home and Coach King is a cool dude and we have a pretty good relationship.”

You were born in Alabama, what are your thoughts on the Crimson Tide?

“Alabama is where I was born and the majority of my family all stay in Alabama so I still consider it home.”

Breakdown the scouting report on Ja’Kobe Walter.

“I say my game is smooth and I don’t get flustered when new things are thrown at me. I try to stay calm and make the right plays while still serving buckets. I also play defense and take charges.”

Goals for this season? Both personal and/or team goals?

“Goal for the season is to flat out play better than I did last year all around the board. Make it past the second round cause that’s when we lost last year in the playoffs, but the end goal is a state title of course.”
