Bear 88 in basketball it's up to the coach to create the match ups they want. I can guarantee you Oats will adjust to a big just standing in the lane.

I'm sure Oats is smart enough to put a line up on the court that would force the big to have to play defense or get switches with screens. LOL
My point is with Herb, Galin or Davis in the game , which they were the majority of the time and on the block , a big would be on them
You can get switches on screens with ANY player

I guess you missed the fact that due to injuries we had to play what we had. Some wasn't capable of that style.

We're talking about next season. We could only play the cards we had last season.

Would love for these to get resurfaced. I defended petty hard before the season yet people were so convinced that he was lazy as shite and wanted to do nothing but jack up 3's. (might have been true his freshman year, but he showed really nice improvement last year)

Exactly. Petty made time to talk to a reporter about entering the transfer portal. I don't believe Oats is really concerned with it. Pretty much tells you what you need to know about Petty
Here's a good starting point. LINK

Dolphin you are missing the point. My point was the opposition does not have to put a big on REESE .... opposing coaches can match up what they want too. I know we had injuries but we will see if we don’t run a 4 out this year , not 5 out ... if you run a true 5 out , you better not miss too often

I’m still not a big Petty fan. I’m just not. Never have been. I appreciated his hustle but I won’t be heartbroken if he leaves this year either.
I said at the end of the season that I didn’t care who left and who came back besides Shack.

Have you ever considered taking up coaching? I believe you'd be great. All new team every year!

I understand what you're saying but the big can't just sit back in the paint if the offense is 5 out. 5 out don't mean you just shoot threes. You drive the ball to the basket for lay ups or kick outs for open threes. You can also still crash the boards.

No, but I realize this is a message board and everyone has opinions and has the right to put them out there, even if they are bad. I also love when people disagree with opinions but still try to dictate what others should think

We would've been absolutely screwed without Petty last year, as we got a chance to see when we lost to Vanderbilt at home when he was out with his injured elbow.

Yea, without Petty, we wouldn’t have made the NCAA tournament........

Right. Second leading scorer and leading rebounder. Not to mention his underrated defense. Also shot above 40 percent from three.

Herb and Petty improved a ton last year, so did Kira. Nice to have a coach now who can develop and motivate players.

I get it . Trust me . You can drive and dish , backdoor cuts etc but my point is If Reese was the matchup nightmare people claim, he SHOULD be more effective than he is , hip be damned . If he was seriously injured , then he should not have been playing on it , and he gives up more on defense and rebounding than he offers on the offensive end. IMO he would be more effective coming off the bench for a few minutes at a time unless he is hot that night . He is a 6’9” SF at heart
No the big isn’t just going to sit under the basket but he isn’t going to close out on Herb, Galin or Davis either

Hey Bear, how ya holding up with the whole family being home on quarantine

I get your point also. I agree with him coming off the bench. I'm just saying his skill set fits better with better pieces around him. Last year was not good. There were times when Reese, Forbes, Galin or Javian were all in the game at the same time. Not good. Hopefully the upgrade in players solve that issue.

Bear 88 I'm enjoying the conversation. I'm not trying to be confrontational. Just good discussion.
