We have more guard depth than some of these teams we are competing against for transfer guards.
Have to assume that Quinerly, Shack, Primo, and Herb are all gonna be starters if Petty doesn't come back. We have probably one spot open for a guard to come in and get about 30 minutes a game and they'll probably be coming off the bench.
Keon Ellis is probably the most likely guy to take that last spot.
I think Singleton would come here regardless, we need a backup PG and he will get some minutes, he can play any position 1-4 too so that would help him get on the floor.
ETA: I still think we add three more guards ideally, just may be hard to get one of the top grad transfer guards going against schools where they could come in and be the one of the top two guards.

With probably one spot left for major minutes for a guard would you guys rather have Ellis or one of the top grad transfers guards left who averaged around 13 ppg?
I'd probably pick Ellis, he has two years left and is a good all around player and has won everywhere he has been.
Vance Jackson is the only one I'd choose over Ellis.

I dont think both Shack and Primo start. Especially when Petty returns.

Even Nate Oats said he would be presently surprised if Petty comes back.

Would expect Ja'Dun Michael, who just opted to decommit from Wichita State, to reel in some significant interest. Was impressed with him during his senior season. High major wing scorer.

Herb testing the waters could help us in recruiting another good guard aside from Ellis and Singleton, it theoretically opens up another starting spot for a guard. Of course Herb is probably gonna come back, but Oats seems to be recruiting as if he is gone, like he said he would if someone enters the draft.

What’s happening at Witchita State?

This was part of his explanation of decommitting.

Then Va Tech will be hard to beat on his list of contacts. Blacksburg is only 130 miles and 2 hrs from home. Tuscaloosa is 554 miles and almost 9 hours away. That’s going to be a tough pull.

Another good forward has entered the portal that would be a good fit. 6'8 220 lb Brandon Johnson from Western Michigan.
Averaged 15 pts and 8 rebs a game, shot 34% from three. Grad transfer.

Actually, he said he doesn't want to be caught with his britches down, like some coaches. So, he's going to plan as if Petty and Kira are both gone, and then be pleasantly surprised if they come back. Not exactly the same.
Kira is obviously gone. I'd put Petty at 50/50, just my guess.

Western Michigan redshirt junior Brandon Johnson went into the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday, and it didn't take long for a host of schools to reach out.
Johnson, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound power forward, told 247Sports that was immediately contacted by Alabama, Cincinnati, Dayton, Georgetown, Louisville, New Mexico, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Utah and Virginia Tech.
Johnson is coming off of a tremendous year, averaging 15.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks a game, while shooting 48.6-percent from the field. Johnson sat out the previous season with a knee injury.
During his sophomore season, Johnson averaged 9.3 points and 5.8 rebounds, which was up from 8.0 points and 5.5 rebounds as a freshman.
Johnson will be eligible to play immediately due to graduate transfer rules.

Oats is trying his hardest to be like Musselman and contact every transfer on the board

Musselman has contacted about 40 transfers.Oats isnt quite there yet. Glad we are contacting a lot though. Gotta gauge their interest somehow, definitely not gonna get them to sign if you dont contact them.

Nice, I figured we would contact him. Would be a good backup plan for Bruner.

I'd be disappointed if they weren't.
