I’ve started out super high on Shackelford, and he continues to impress me. The kid is just smooth in everything he does: the spot up jumper, the stepback, the handles, the finishing, the quick and sharp cuts, and even the passing. Offensively speaking, I can’t find a flaw in his game that he needs to work on. I know there have to be some, but given what I’ve seen it’s hard to nit-pick him, even as a freshman. If he even attempts to play defense, I’m not sure how you can keep him out of the main rotation.

In a short blurb from Oats, he essentially said Lewis, Jelly, and Herb are the three best ball handlers. That would be a knock on Shackelford and Forbes if we are trying to point out potential flaws.

Shackelford and Forbes have only been enrolled in college for about a month. Herb Jones is going into his JR season. I am pretty sure Shackleford will be a much better ball handler than Jones at that point in his career, he may even surpass him this season.

Yeah, I guess so, but that list also includes Bolden who played PG at WVU. I think he may be just praising Herb, or including his passing/play-making ability which he demonstrated could be stellar in his first year and what ultimately (when paired with his defense) put him on a lot of 1st Round Draft Boards in the preseason. He’s just got to fix the turnover problems. Just looking at film though, it’s hard for me to believe Herb’s a better dribbler than Shackelford.

I'm not an anti Herb person at all, but if he is one of our best 3 ball handlers, we're in trouble

I thought that a lot of Herb's problems with turnovers, was because he was being asked to do things that he couldn't do. That's not Herb's fault

I assume he didn't include Bolden because he isn't enrolled yet.

I agree . I know he was asked to bring the ball up some last year and teams do not press or pressure as much as they used to but I did not see any great handles from Herb

If Quinerly doesn't get a waiver then Lewis and Bolden will be the main ball handlers.

If he does then we will have Lewis, Quinerly, and Bolden, three PGs.

Bolden was WVs main PG last year and did a good job.

We aren't gonna see Herb Jones playing any PG, trust me.

Watching that 15 min video I honestly dont know what the rotation is gonna be. All 13 can play. Shack and Forbes really impressed me with their shooting.

Dont wanna get too optimistic but we got a chance to be pretty damn good this year.

Shackleford is a very good ball handler, you can watch 30 seconds of his film and tell that.

He said Beetle will be more of a SG than the primary ball handler.

He is, he is a really good scorer and with Kira, Bolden should be out main SG. He still played mostly PG for WV last year, and averaged way fewer turnovers per 40 minutes than Herb Jones did.

One things I really liked from Herb Jones interview from today is that Oats has been having him do the 100 threes drill. Jones said when he started doing it he made 44 out of 100 and the most recent time he did it he made 59 out of 100. If Jones can become a consistent shooter from three that would be awesome.

I'd take him getting above 50% from the free throw line

That's a good question to debate though, what we do at PG for the 10 minutes Kira is out of the game if Quinerly isn't eligible. My guess is Bolden plays 30 minutes a game as well, 20 at SG and 10 as backup PG.

All 3 (4 if you count Kira) of our guys from that class averaged more points per game in EYBL than Trendon Watford

Just saying

My question is if JQ is clear its obvious him and Kira are going to be on the court a lot together...how will the ball handling be distibuted then? 50/50?? Maybe 60/40 in favor of Kira.

Not sure, but I sure would love for us to have the two of them on the floor at the same time playing fast paced high scoring basketball.

With Petty, Quinerly and Lewis all on the floor at the same time that would be a back-court of three guards who were all top 35 prospects. Not to mention Bolden who is the most experienced of all of them and regularly had 20+ point games at WV.

Probably my favorite clip of practice today, Shack, Forbes and Reese combining for 7 threes in a row.

Both Shackelford and Forbes shot the ball well, and Shackelford is a polished ball-handler.
