I'm excited about all Oates signees & transfers so far.
I've seen Beetle play a few times & he has a confident presence on the court.
Very fast up the court ball handler.

Gene, just be quiet and go back to your own board. You are stinking this one up lately. Multiple congressmen have threatened the NCAA over the years with taking away their monopoly status. You don’t threaten someone by taking away something they don’t have.

It's not his fault that you live in a fantasyland...

No one is taking shite from the NCAA. The threat is an easy political move that earns points with the locals, but the reality of actually trying to push that through and having it get blown apart by NCAA lobbyists and NCAA political donations is too stark for any politician to actually stomach.

The threat

The threat is to start applying antitrust laws on the NCAA as they currently are "ignored" as you mentioned.

I find the investigation/legal side fascinating for this FBI case. The feds are accusing Adidas of bribing coaches to cheat the school (federally funded institution) of their economic right to distribute scholarship/federal funds.

So in that context, you might be able to deduce why FBI/Fed Prosecutor isn't targeting Miller/Wade/Bill Self despite plenty of wiretaps

1- Only coaches who took financial kick backs got arrested. Hard to prove corruption when there is no benefit at expense of the school/player

2- Schools give HC full discretion re scholarships, hard to argue you cheated yourself out of your own right to make a decision

Here's a full Buffalo game from last year, for those interested in what our style of play will look like under gOats. Even if you only watch 10 minutes of it here are a few things you'll notice

1. How fast they get out in transition. Even on Made baskets they are trying to push the ball up the floor really fast.

2. How much harder they played on defense then us. They rarely give up wide open shots, you've got to earn it. Even shots that look like they will be wide open, buffalo players find a way to contest the shot.

3. Really fun style of play to watch, they play hard and fast.

Buffalo vs Bowling Green

That Matthews kid looks like a defensive stopper and shows a lot of heart.

Time to move on from Watford. Hank South changed his CB from Bama to LSU(not sure why you’re allowed to change your CB...). He said it’s a Memphis and LSU battle at this point from what he’s hearing.

I’ll look forward to seeing Watford’s face once we sweep them next year.

Definitely annoying but Situations change.

If a kid is about to commit to UAB for football you put a CB in for UAB. If next week Bama offers him and it is his dream offer, it would be dumb to leave the UAB CB in

What's stupider to me are the guys who piggyback CBs to boost their prediction score.

Sorry, I can't wish him well. I won't wish anything bad on him, but I certainly won't wish him well. I hope he stays healthy. That's the extent of my well wishing

Being honest, Oats just didn't have enough time to develop a relationship with Watford. He killed it on the recruiting trail and gave enough effort to get Watford, but that doesn't make up for a years worth of communication.

He's obviously a good player but I see him fitting better in a slower, half court centric offense. He also has major questions as a defendwe

I don't think the difference between a better system fit for Bama and Watford will be as big a gap as the recruiting rankings suggest

I agree. I've been kind of disappointed by his development. I thought he was going to be a star when he was averaging 12-14 per in EYBL as a 15 year old playing the 17-18 year olds, but he's basically stayed the same player.

His scoring went up but only because his usage went up. He still hangs out on the perimeter way too much for his size and is pretty timid on both ends.

All that said he's a very good player and whoever gets him should be excited, but he's not the game changing prospect I thought he could be 2-3 years ago.

Well by all accounts we had already lost Watford under Avery so hiring Nate actually gave us a last minute chance with him. It wasn’t enough but you can’t miss what you never had. Let’s move on and roll with Nate.
Wade is obviously still making strong arse offers. Why shouldn’t he? Nothing has changed.

Watford is basically Joe Ingles

- Clear Forward size (TW 6'9 230, Ingles 6'8 225)
- Avg athleticism, not quick twitch
- Guard/Wing skills in a stretch 4 body

hangs out on the perimeter way too much

So does JoeBuckets

quote:

pretty timid on both ends.

When you view yourself as a finesse perimeter player, you play like one.

On defense, he simply isn't the athlete to provide elite rim protection/rebounding.

quote:

he's a very good player and whoever gets him should be excited,

Joe Ingles similarly is underrated / elite as a role player

Rub it in Gene. Ingles is like a demi god down here. Second only to Simmons. I’d take Ingles all day. Compare him to anybody else but please not Ingles!
