That isn't an isolated case. There's coaches ranked well behind him that have much better averages every year.
I don't know if I have every seen an exact breakdown on the formula but Jeff Capel was only listed as a primary recruiter for Harry Giles. He was secondary on Frank Jackson and Javin DeLaurier. Pettway was listed as primary on both Key and Davis.

Here is my take on Pettway. I believe it would be a good move for him to go to Cincinnati. I don't think it would be good for Bama, but I'm trying to look at things unselfishly.

There’s no way Will Wade is retained as head coach at LSU. There’s already enough to fire with cause but I think Wade and his attorney have demanded due process so everyone is going to allow it to play all the way out. But all that can come out is more damning information. The only thing saving his arse at the moment is that nobody has actually accused him of any violation of laws or rules. Once the Feds or the NCAA levels charges, they will fire him with a quickness.
