I wasn't even sure looking at the list if Arkansas was missing from it because they were considered ahead of or behind it.

I hope Alabama pulls something out the hat to finish 3-1 and gets in but also hope it's not the case that all four SEC bubble teams finish 2-2 and all miss the cut.

I don't think the conference is super strong this year but I do feel it's a lot stronger than only getting 4 bids would imply. Just from watching many of the SEC VS mighty Big Ten OOC games, I'm certainly not convinced the 8-11 in that conference are better than SEC 5-8.

last year, the committee said they didnt use any conference tournament results in deciding the teams that made the tournament.

Arizona State got in last year with a win in their conference tourney, so did Florida and Ohio State, those are just off the top of my head, I'm sure there were others.

Conference tournaments are for sure taken into account.
We wouldn't have gotten in two years ago had we not beaten A&M in the conference tourney.

Regarding Hawkins, it is pretty evident that Nate has decided he’s not going to play a role this year. I don’t know if that’s because of his physical condition or because he’s just not good enough or mot good enough yet. The low post in the SEC is a man’s game and you can get pushed around pretty easily if you aren’t up to the challenge. Whatever the reason, it’s obvious Nate has made a decision on him that he’s not going to play much at all. The question becomes is he trying to save him for when he is ready next season or after or is he trying to send the message that he can’t make it here?

It was assumed before the season from Oat's comments that Hawkins wouldn't play a lot. While he wasn't ready to play this year he does have huge upside, which Oats has also alluded to. I would be shocked if he wasn't here next year.

Oats quotes about Hawkins

quote:

Raymond Hawkins has got big upside. He’s behind Galin, behind Javian . He makes plays here and there that show you how good he will be when he puts it all together.”

quote:

“he’s still working to get in shape. He’s got a lot of upside when he does get there”

It's not a lot different from Davis' situation when he came in way overweight last year, but Hawkins is to a lesser extent.

One thing that I will find interesting to watch is how the committee will address some teams that struggled with injuries. It hasn't been something that I have really paid attention to in the past but it has always been my belief that the committee really didn't account for them much at all unless we are talking about a team right on the verge of getting in, like last one or two teams.

The reason I bring this up is on Saturday Joe Lundari was doing his standard rotation of games and popped in on the Mizzou vs Arkansas game. The announcers asked him about the committee and how they handle injuries. Joe seems fairly adamant that the committee does take it very seriously into account. I have been very critical of Joe's brackets throughout the year but I will be watching to see how right Joe may be about this.

Obviously Arkansas and Bama are among many teams that have had issues with key players going down.

I'd hope so since both teams lost their MVP's and played much better with the player than without and there was an obvious difference. Not sure about Arkansas situation really regarding the tournament and how many wins they need to get to but I think Alabama still has to get to at least 19 to be considered, irregardless of the injury. If we can get to 19 or more wins hopefully when reviewing us and comparing us to the other teams competing for the same spot they take Herb's injury into account.

Yeah, Lunardi said that when asked about Arkansas and Alabama during the Bama-Ole Miss game too.

I've always though similarly to you though: maybe people mentioned injuries for a decision here and there along the bubble but not often enough that I really recall them.

I do recall numerous times where the committee significantly adjusted a seeding based on an inured player being back (or vice versa).

The other factor is that I have no idea how many other teams on those bubble lines have also had important players miss key games.

Surge, aren’t you the bitch that tards up everybody’s threads?

Seriously, I don’t know why you don’t drop the ban hammer on him. His occasional decent takes are not worth him being a constant shite stirrer.

Y’all young uns aren’t old enough to remember one thing about the selection committee: they LOVE to FU CK Alabama with a broken whiskey bottle, either with horrible draws or just omitting them altogether. If there’s a way they can send us to the NIT or match us with a team that is just a matchup nightmare for is like with a pair of 7 footers inside, they will. They’ve done it my entire life. They take their football frustrations out on our hapless basketball team.

Idk what the hell got into us before the Ole Miss game but we almost looked like a different team. Feeding the paint with great passes for easy buckets, playing good defense. Our bigs played well for a change. Everyone was fighting hard for rebounds, diving on the floor for loose balls.

I hope we turned a corner and it’s a sign of what’s to come the rest of the season instead a one off freak occurrence.

I'd say we match-up well with them judging by the first time we played them. Gonna be a different animal playing them at their place. I have a good feeling about it, not good enough to guarantee we win, but if I had to guess who I think wins I'd pick us.

State has won their last 6 at the Hump, last loss coming Jan 4 vs AU.
We'll need to make our 3's. Big 6'10, 250Lb. Reggie Perry (17ppg, 10rpg) will own the post.

This is Bama basketball, good feelings aren’t supposed to happen.

Serious bidness, basketball has emotionally broken me. I hate that I love it so much. I hate that my younger self even got involved. If I could go back in time and change anything, loving Bama basketball would be one of the first things gone

We've all been let down so many times with Bama basketball, if before my time is up we miraculously make a Final 4, I'll personally be as proud as I've ever been following Bama athletics.
