I’m not really concerned with the ability of the staff to recruit tbh. Pettway and Hodgson are both good recruiters and our style of play is very enticing to recruits.

I'm not either. I know but when I asked peoples confidence level on Oats a few weeks ago some people were putting like 6/10 - 7/10 and saying they aren't sure he is a good recruiter since he missed on a lot of the 2020 kids. (even though he got in way too late to have a chance with any of them.)

Just wondering if we get Primo that opinion will change.

Actually most said 8 or 8.5 out of 10, one person said 6/10, one guess on who it was.

quote:

6 out of 10. They play hard, they run decent plays, I like all of that. He hasn’t recruited worth a shiit though. Only one commit his entire time here besides the Avery recruits he convinced to stick. If we turn in to 3-Star University, we’ll be 12-10 at this point every season, which basically isn’t any different than usual for Bama basketball

Honestly, I want Petty to leave

Yeah, me too. I'm sure we can bring in a freshman that will do better than JP, who is probably our best all around player, and one of the top 3 point shooters in the nation. No big loss there, just our best shooter, best rebounder, and at least our second best defender.

Yeah he’s our best all around player...as long as there’s no pressure. When the heat is on and we need him to step up his game and make a play, he disappears. Every. Time.

He hit the three game to send it OT @Auburn a few games ago. He is usually pretty clutch in big games vs good teams. It's the games at home we should easily win that he and Kira seem to struggle in.

Petty has had a good year and is a good college basketball player. We are a worse team if he isn't on it.

3 of the last 4 games he has been good, with the exception of the LSU game, which he was really bad in. Oats said he was +17 last game which was the best on the team. Maybe he can put it together this last month since he is back able to eat normally again.

I'm just done with them, fellas. Ready for a clean slate. I'm not hating on Petty and Kira but I just feel they are part of the culture that needs changing. Both have improved their game a great deal, but they aren't getting results. If I had to question anything, maybe it's their desire, their "want to." Their only apparent desire is to make it in the draft and go pro. Hey, admirable goal, and I don't fault them for it. But the best way to get there is to bust your arse in the here and now and play good, smart effective basketball. Develop a killer instinct and USE IT! Not to frick around and get beat by inferior opponents because you just didn't feel like bringing it that night. The NBA is a full time job. You don't want to bring it every night, say hello to Europe or Asia, because you won't last long in the league.

I was as disappointed in the fans not showing up at Coleman for the TAMU game as I was for the team not showing up. I get what you're saying though.

Look at a team like Penn State, they went 14 and 18 last year, haven't made the NCAAT in a long time, but this year with a Junior and senior heavy/experienced team and are ranked in the top 10 with the same players they've been losing with the last 3 years.

It's not out of the question that this core group of players we have could change and become winners next year.

Yea, experience is a big deal. Especially with our system. We'd be starting over if he just sent everybody packing. Wouldn't be helpful at all.

Was thinking of TT earlier they had a 10 year run from 2008 to 2017 that reminds me of ours. Their only Tourney appearance from 2008 to 2017 was 2016 where I think they got knocked out in the first round.

Chris Beard's first year there they had some talent and went 18-14, but didn't make the tournament. Then they came back the next year with a pretty experienced team and of course went to the elite 8 and have been rolling ever since. If Oats could make a similar turn here in year two with a similarly experienced team that would be amazing.

Hell screw the elite 8 I would just be stoked making the tourney next year.

You should Coach K's early years at Duke. The AD had enough sense to be patient. Oats seems like he knows what he's talking about, we got a good one.

Good point.

Look at Florida State's coach Leonard Hamilton. He didn't make the NCAAT there til year 7. Now he has them ranked 8th with an elite 8 and a sweet 16 the last two years. They had extreme patience and it's paying off.

If we had held onto Grant 4 more years he may have had us ranked in the top 5 like he does Dayton but a lot of our fans were so against him he left on his own.

I agree that Oats is a good coach, but you can’t compare times today with almost 40 years ago. Patience is hard to come by now.

Coack K did have a really bad first three years but in year 4 he really got them rolling so luckily they gave him that 4th year but he got it going semi quickly.

I get his point though, these days a lot of coaches won't be given that 4th year of they don't come close to making the tourney their first three.

You're right too, people have less patience with coaches today than they did then.

Get out of here with this bullshite. Grant is just better as a mid major coach than he is at a Power 5. He couldn’t recruit and our roster was so depleted, we were lucky to have a team. Can’t blame fans for a coach that can’t fill up his team.
