I think we gotta win 5 of last 7 & win a game in the SEC tourney to get in the dance.

With having a good SOS and the injuries we’ve had I think 18 wins would get us in if we can get another quad 1, do that we probably have an 80-90% chance to get in. Winning a game in the SECT on top of it would seal the deal though.

I hope we can go on a run in the SEC tourney regardless and think we can.

Kira #23 in Vecnie's latest Mock for The Athletic

quote:

23. Miami Heat
Kira Lewis Jr. | 6-4 guard | 18 years old, sophomore | Alabama

Lewis continues to put up terrific numbers on offense, leading Nate Oats high-powered, breakneck-transition attack. One of the most productive point guards in the country, he’s averaging 17.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists with 1.8 steals. He’s the only player in the country hitting those thresholds so far this season, and one of 19 to hit them over the last decade. Of those 19, 10 of them played at least one NBA game. His speed is legitimately elite in the open floor, and he has good burst with his first step.

However, look closer, and things come apart a bit. He’s turning the ball over four times per game. He’s not really much of a pull-up shooter. His frame is still right around 170 pounds, which means he’s going to struggle a bit to deal with the defensive responsibilities of his position as well as his finishing at the basket. The production and speed is tough to ignore, but the rest of it makes him a bit more of a project than the pure numbers might indicate.

I really want to crush LSU. I hope we win this game more than I have any other this year. I hate LSU so much.

I guess at the end of the year Kira has to weigh the risk reward of being a late 1st round pick/early 2nd round guy. Selfishly I hope he comes back and gains a little weight and becomes a better finisher. Hopefully having JQ would allow him to not play every second which I would think would help his efficiency.

Im for playing Hawkins 20 minutes vs TAMU and seeing what he can do, it cant be worse. We already burned his RS anyway.

LSU would be too tough of a game to get him his first real experience. Emmitt Williams would murder him much like he did our bigs last game.

Big Wiley put the Galin/Davis combo over his knee, spanked them from start to finish with 0% resistance & our style of play still got the game to OT.

In case anybody was wondering what we missed with Herb out, here are his ranks in the SEC in SEC Games Only

Offensive Rating : 120.7 (8th SEC)
Offensive Rebound Rate : 9.2% (13th SEC)
Defensive Rebound Rate : 17.9% (15th SEC)
Assist Rate : 17.0 (25th SEC)
Turnover Rate : 8.9 (4th SEC)
Steal % : 2.4% (20th SEC)

Keep in mind this doesn't even account for the fact that he is a 1st Team All-Conference defensive player

Shouldn’t exclude Reese from this list. 3/14 with 4 rebounds in 30 minutes...

Aside from the fact that he can't shoot or dribble in traffic, Herb is actually one of our better players on offense. He gets after rebounds and actually makes pretty good decisions with the ball. He is the epitome of a glue guy.

And he's figured out how to mitigate the dribble issues for the most part. He takes our offense from a 4 wide pass around for a 3 offense and makes it much more complete, because he roams the interior, catches entry passes and is able to effectively manipulate defenders and make good decisions on when to drive and when to kick out/throw it to a cutter.

I can't believe I'm saying all that about Herb Jones but it is absolutely the truth.

And Hands got drafted 56th. Kira is likely to be a top 30 pick, if he is a much better player and prospect. I was referring to talent level and NBA potential, not college production.

In college production they may be similar.
