Very excited about watching the guys play today. This is the type of game that would crush us in years past. Lets hope Oats has these boys ready

This is just not true. Grant developed a few players. Though he inherited him from Gottfried, Jamychal Green got better under Grant. Trevor Releford was a completely different player his senior year compared to his freshman season. Same with Retin Obasahan.

Avery was pretty bad at developing players, so I'll give you that. But Donta Hall developed some under him. But Grant was decent at developing players. Gottfried was a mixed bag. He got lazy his last couple of years though for sure.

The down votes to this are ridiculous, and are based off of revisionist history. Grant was solid at developing players. He had a go-to scorer every year and it seemed like every player under him got better from year to year. Can’t think of many cases where a player was worse from year to year, which certainly was an issue during the Johnson era.

The problem with Grant wasn’t player development. It was the lack of players on scholarship and a terrible offensive game plan, that he seems to have figured out at Dayton. Always knew he was going to have success somewhere else.

I hate the chant “overrated”, but our fans might have been right about Auburn

Grant was good at developing players DEFENSIVELY. On offense, he didnt have a clue and it was painful to watch. I still dont know how Retin blossomed with him.

North Carolina is BAD. We would run them out of the Gym if we played again. I gotta weird feeling this is Roy Williams last ride at UNC

Yes we would beat them by 25+ if we played them today. Sucks how our ooc opponents are sucking so much arse

Grant's got the Flyers flying high.
I was high on him when he became our coach, however, 6 years, only 1 NCAA tourney appearance.
Avery, 4 years, 1 NCAA tourney appearance.
Hopefully, Oates will give us an every season tourney appearance. We shall see.

In Grant's defense, he should have at least 1 more at Bama. That 2010-11 team 100% earned a bid and got bent over by the committee.

I think Petty hits 6 from deep. He has been sorta quiet from 3 the last couple of games.

Players improved a good bit offensively. Our offense didn’t improve because it was a poor system that revolved around having a go-to scorer playing one-on-one ball every year. Releford took huge steps forward expanding his range. Levi Randolph became a stud on offense out of nowhere. Retin’s ascension began towards the end of Grant’s last season. I think it’s pretty clear, he developed offensive talent pretty well. He just wasted it in his clock-melting offense.
