Kentucky, as has been traditional in recent years, is a young team (two freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior in the starting lineup), but very talented. Four Wildcats average double figures scoring — freshman guard Tyrese Maxey 14 ppg, junior forward Nick Richards 13 ppg, sophomore guard Ashton Hagans 12.9 ppg, and sophomore guard Quickley Immanuel 12.8 ppg. Richards leads UK in rebounding (7.5 per game) and Hagans in assists (7.1 per game).

“We’ve been scoring the ball pretty well,” Oats said. “I think our guys have some confidence. That’s one of the issues playing Kentucky: can you score with their length and athleticism and how hard Cal (Kentucky Coach John Calipari) gets them to play?

“I’m sure they’re going to try to take Kira (Lewis) out and going to try to take JP (John Petty) out. I think we can still get those guys some, and we’re going to have to have other guys step up.”

Oats said, “We’re getting healthy. Herb (Jones) looks way, way better ever since he hyperextended that elbow the first game. Beetle (Bolden) is getting healthier.” Javion Davis was held out of Bama’s final Tuscaloosa workout Friday, but Oats said he would be ready to go Saturday.

As for playing one of the nation’s historically best teams, Oats said, “This is why you do all the work in the gym in the summer to play games like this. They have some of the best players in the country; you know they are going to have some of the best players in the country every year.

“Our guys are a pretty confident bunch. They feel like they belong in that conversation with some of the better players in the country.

“There’s no better way to figure that out than on the floor.”

What’s the magic number for Bama to make the field this year?

Can't give you a magic number, but it involves finding a way to beat Auburn, Kentucky, and Florida at some point. Right now, those are Bama's "up" games, so to speak. 19-20 wins?

Auburn and UK at at the top of the SEC it appears. Florida should be in that group but the Gators have been enigmatic. Then comes a group that includes Arkansas, LSU, Georgia and ... who else joins? Like 'Bama's team, as you say, if they figure it out.

#Alabama forward Javian Davis is dealing with a minor hamstring problem. Nate Oats said he'll still be good to go against No. 14 Kentucky.

“We just kept him out of the full-court stuff… He did everything in the half-court today, so he’ll be good to go for tomorrow.”

Alabama's top three scorers --- Kira Lewis, John Petty, and Jaden Shackelford --- are averaging a combined 46.1 PPG.

Crimson Tide have scored 90 or more points in five straight games.

Interesting game for Kentucky at Rupp Arena.

ESPN shows the spread as +10 while CBS has it as +8.5.

I’m sorry, but if it takes 20 wins on this schedule, I’d rather go to a cupcake schedule.

Auburn’s game was moved up from afternoon to 11 due to weather, but Bama/UK was always 11.
