SC is winning by 9 at halftime @ Virginia.
Rickmond currently losing at home to 3 and 7 Radford, I hope Richmond pulls it out.

Serious question:
What record would we be with Avery still as the coach?
6-5 isn't great, but I can't imagine we'd have a better record, or even the same.
I'd think around 4-7 or worse
My guess would be 7-4. That isn’t to say that Avery is a better coach, but a lot of our early losses are due to trying to play fast without knowing how to.

No way we would have a better record than we do now if Avery was coaching lol.
We would've lost the games we already have plus would've lost to SFA and Belmont imo.
I'd say we'd be 4 and 7 at best.

Just a random thought but I was thinking...When was the last time we beat Arkansas? I don’t remember us beating them under Avery

Unless something crazy happens Richmond is about to lose a terrible Radford team.

And South Carolina just knocked off #9 Virginia. College basketball Is a hot mess of mediocrity this season. If this is Nate’s second or third season in Tuscaloosa, we could probably contend for the SEC title. It’s a down, bad year.

Mississippi State lost at home to a bad team. Feeling better about our game vs them in a couple of weeks.

Feeling better about our 5 losses for sure

Penn is the one we shouldn’t have lost. But it was the first game of the season. If we play them now, we probably beat then handily.

On a neutral court, we beat Penn State

If we could start over right now I think we are 9-2.
Only losses UNC and @PSU.

Not unless I missed one while looking at the schedules.

I just hope the layoff doesn’t bother us since we are playing so well.

I really like Oats a lot and think it was 100% the right move to replace Avery.
That said, I think Avery would have a better record right now simply because:
1. No drastic change of philosophies that obviously had the team --especially Kira -- really struggling in comparison to last year for the first 8 or so games.
2. Avery was pretty decent in getting the team up for bigger games so there's no reason to think we don't get at least get one extra win out of the UNC, Iowa St, Rhode Island, Penn St and Penn games
Avery wasn't a complete disaster, just mediocre overall. Feel sure he'd be safely on pace for his 17-14 NIT bid with this team.

I'm just tickled by the way these guys are improving each game.
It's so nice to see. Every game you see adjustments Oats is making to put players more in their comfort zones.
The biggest has simply been impressing on Jones and Petty that it's OK to pull the ball back out when the lane is well defended even if Oats' ultimate design is probably to have players knowing when it's best to "force" the action more often.
Seems that the Belmont game should also be a huge confidence builder as almost every single player had very positive outing.
Kira played a LOT better game. I believe he had 7 or 8 assists and only 1 turnover.
Shack had a great night from behind the arc.
Petty has just been as fun to watch as any Bama player recently. If he keeps hustling his arse off deflecting passes, causing travels, grabbing tough rebounds, he can try as many behind the back passes as he wants in my book.
Reese can be frustrating because he compounds his lack of elite athleticism by not consistently being a "110% effort" type guy.
However, when he plays smart games like he did against Belmont where he sticks to what he does well, he seems the exact type player most say in the recruiting threads we need more of: guy with smooth basketball skills (shooting, passing etc) that's not really a 4 star physical specimen.
I do think Bolden, Reese and Jones playing better also has a lot to do with them simply getting a bit more healthy.
