Does the existing school have the opportunity to match/beat the new school’s NIL offer?

If so and the existing school decides not to match, I assume that means the player just wasn’t worth it to them?

Obviously some players want to go and aren’t interested in a counteroffer.

It's a free market. All schools get to bid. I suspect some kids will get well beyond their nominal value simply to peel away talent from Alabama. The Alabama fanbase will do the rest. That should be very evident at this point. The only factor that remains is the maximum number of players each team can have remains the same.

Like a contractual right of first refusal? Lol, no. You seem to think there are some sort of rules to the current wild wild west era of college football player movement. There are not.

Aside from whatever money he can get through the school's collective, he can also make whatever he can get on his own. The school doesn't control that.

Yeah, let's say Harbaugh had left a year ago, Michigan had hired Kelly, and Mercedes had offered Jayden Daniels a few million to come to Tuscaloosa. That's an agreement that a player makes with a business that is outside the control of LSU, or even Alabama, even if Alabama helped facilitate it. Now, could some billionaire business owner in Louisiana offer Daniels more? Sure. Would LSU try to facilitate that? Probably.
