For what it's worth, I don't mind the exteriors of Coleman; it's the interior design of it that bothers me so much. The band placement, the student seating and the upper seats are so awful.
Agree 100%. Architecturally the building is nice, and it fits campus really well. The parking should be addressed (matching parking deck between the arena and the law school for the sports complex).
The interior needs a massive overhaul, and I think it's coming if the team keeps building on this momentum. I'd say if we get to year 5 with consistent results, you'll see it happen.

I just wonder architecturally what they could do to the interior seating that would vastly improve it without spending close to what a new arena would cost. I mean ideally they'd move the sideline seats closer to the playing surface, and increase the pitch of the seats in the sidelines putting fans closer and more "on top" of the court. But is that feasible with its current construction? I mean I guess it is. Then maybe get rid of the seats from about halfway up and somehow construct an upper deck of some sort. Seems the roof is plenty tall enough to accommodate an upper deck. Then round out the corners a little better.
Just seems the cost of doing all that would approach the cost of a brand new facility, but then maybe my spitballed plans are a bit ambitious.

UGA just won AT South Carolina 74-72. That's not good.

Good.Hopefully they'll be all tuckered out and over confident when they play us on Saturday.

Updated standings and weekend schedule/scenarios:
1) Texas A&M 12-5
2) Kentucky 12-5
3) Vanderbilt 11-6
4) LSU 11-6
5) South Carolina 10-7
6) Ole Miss 9-8
7) Arkansas 9-8
8) Georgia 9-8
9) Alabama 8-9
10) Florida 8-9
11) Mississippi State 6-11
12) Tennessee 6-11
13) Auburn 5-12
Saturday
Ole Miss @ Tennessee
Vandy @ aTm
LSU @ Kentucky
Auburn @ MSU
Alabama @ Georgia
South Carolina @ Arkansas
Florida @ Missouri
If we beat Georgia, we'd be 9-9 and would take the tiebreaker from Florida and the 8 seed. If Ole Miss and Arkansas lose Saturday and we win, we lose the tie breaker to them. A loss at Geoegia coupled with a Florida win at Missouri means we're the 10 seed. The only way we get the 9 is if we lose and Florida loses.
So anywhere from 8-10 is where we sit. Which means:
Noon SEC Network Game 2 - No. 9 seed vs. No. 8 seed
or
6 p.m. SEC Network Game 4 - No. 10 seed vs. No. 7 seed
Game 2 would mean we play the #1 seed at noon on Friday. Game 4 would mean we play #2 seed at 6.
Main games to keep an eye on other than ours is aTm and Kentucky. We really need Kentucky to get the 2 seed if we're going to end up as the 8/9.
Florida or Georgia in the first game and Kentucky/aTm if we're lucky enough to win.

I mean it'd take five games this weekend playing out perfectly, but there could be five teams (Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida, Alabama) tied for 6th at 9-9 in conference. Figuring out that tiebreak scenario would make my head hurt, I suppose they'd go with the best record against the other four and I don't want to figure that out right now
Realistically I expect Arkansas to beat Carolina in Fayetteville so they'd both be 10-8. That would leave us playing for seeds 7-10 with Ole Miss, Georgia and Florida. Ole Miss has to play at Tennessee, they should win but it's not a given. If Ole Miss loses that'd put us back into play for the 7 seed if we win.
All in all though the most important thing is just what you said, winning at Georgia and avoiding Kentucky's side of the bracket.

Knowing our luck, we'll lose to UGA and be on Kentuckys side of the bracket. Let's hope not tho

If we lose we'll be the 10 seed unless Florida somehow loses to Missouri. So in that case we'd need Vandy to upset A&M in College Station. A&M wins or Kentucky loses tomorrow and A&M is the one and UK the two.

I think gutting the interior and starting from scratch would be cheaper than demo-ing Coleman (or purchasing a new site), and building something from the ground up. Not to mention it's definitely an easier sell to board members and ultimately the folks that need to sign off on it.
Here are my favorite basketball arenas:
Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler):
Assembly Hall (Indiana):
Fifth Third Arena (Cincinnati):
John Paul Jones Arena (UVA):
Ultimately a good product on the court is going to outweigh the facilities. I think that Coleman Coliseum has a ton of potential, just needs a renovation.

Most sites still have us in the first 4 out and I got the ESPN notification a few minutes ago that had us and UF in the "work left to do" section. That article said something like we need to beat UGA if we want a shot at the tourney. I know we already said this here but it's nice to know we are STILL on the bubble after the way we ended the season. I know we have like a 1% chance of making it, but at least we're not going into the final regular season game completely out of it with nothing to even be excited about. Maybe this team will wake up and go on another 5 game run

Yep. The only way Kentucky gets the one seed is if aTm loses to Vandy tomorrow. If they both win or lose, aTm has the head to head tie breaker.
If aTm is going to be the one seed, we have to get into that 8/9 game on Thursday. Otherwise, we're stuck in the 7/10 game with the winner playing Kentucky (which is basically a road game).

Even if OSU and LSU lose and we win, we should remain in the next four out and we'll head into the tournament having to win two according to Lunardi.

I don't think there's any doubt we need a minimum of three straight wins starting tomorrow in order to get an at-large bid.
Posted on 3/4/16 at 1:46 pm to bigpapamac
I would agree, but I really don't know after they let UCLA in last year.
Just win. I really don't see us winning tomorrow, but who knows with this team.
