The negativity is just disappointment in the loss, nothing more. The program is going in the right direction for certain.
There were some positives from yesterday but also we are still struggling shooting the ball and our inside game on both ends is really weak.
That's absurd. There were plenty of things they need to work on and folks calling them out on it is not a big deal. It's not all sunshine and rainbows.
We were lucky to be in it in the first half after going close to 10 minutes without a FG. That's not whining, that's a fact.

also the term Buckle up means to me now. NOt when he gets the kids in. There should be enough of his kids in to push the tempo. If he meant buckle up after 3 recruiting classes he should have coined that phrase in a year or two. My two cents. i am hoping to get a chance to watch more games soon.

Nobody is saying they don't need to improve. But some of the comments in this thread are absurd. And most of them are coming from people who I never saw participating in any of the basketball threads in the offseason.

@ Teague
Agreed. I guess the comment equating bitching about the program to not knowing anything about hoops sort of turned me off.
Certainly plenty of room for improvement but we are better at this point than we were last year.
Roll Tide!
Oregon got drilled last night by the way.

Well, I was negative based on the missed chance at a big win due to the difficulty of our 3-4 remaining OOC resume win opportunities. I've watched roughly 2 billion Alabama basketball games the last 20 years, give or take 1.99 billion, and enjoy it as much or more than football.
No reason to freak out, long season, but games like that against other 6-11 seed type teams at home are big ones to get. We lost one, now we gotta get it back @ Texas or @ Oregon.

Shannon Hale needs to play better. His shooting has been bad, he doesn't rebound, he doesn't create, he doesn't hustle.
We aren't very deep if Hale, Davis, & King are playing like garbage.
Our starting 5 talent is much better this year, but there's a fall off after that.

I still don't understand why we shoot so badly. It gives me the serious sads

Counting Avery's first recruiting class is a little suspect. Very few coaches recruit successfully when hired at the late signing period. Add in Avery's limited contacts in recruiting (NBA not CBB experience), it only gets more unlikely to sign multiple talented players
Bruce Pearl had a similar situation at Auburn, his only two recruits in the late period were players whose scholarships got pulled by other schools (3* TJ Lang/JUCO Cinmeon Bowers)

There should be enough of his kids in to push the tempo. To push the tempo, you need a reliable 8-10 rotational players.
You need 8-10 reliable options with minimal drop off to go uptempo all game.
Unless you are a Duke/UK/UNC/Zona type program, you aren't going to bring in 8 quality players in only 1.5 recruiting classes

We're streaky. We have 3 starters shooting over 40% from the 3 pt line. Don't really have a presence inside.

Any team with a quality big man should park him under the hoop and over-play the perimeter. Florida used to kill us with this D begging us to shoot mid-range jumpers. We couldn't do it.
Hopefully, Hall can continue to develop in this area. Love his athleticism.

A good passing team that dishes off the dribble would have non stop open layups/post shots.
Aren't many good passing teams though

so my point was if you are not going to buckle up the fan base until you get a few classes then why roll out this phrase.
Posted on 11/16/16 at 5:50 pm to mrbroker
Maybe to get fans excited? I promise you Avery's goal is to make the NCAAT right now and not wait until his classes are in.

You are treating a PR slogan like a campaign promise.
Given the schedule, and the middle SEC tier looking improved, Bama should be satisfied going 18-19+ wins in YR2. Especially when you have the talent ready be injected that he signed

So, you were expecting a dominant team in the first two years because AJ said "buckle up"? Come on, man. That's ridiculous. Avery said from the beginning it would take a little time. Not a LOT of time, but obviously not in the first couple of years.
That said, this team will be pretty good, and I'm betting they make the tournament.

not expecting a damn thing but he did say this team would be more up tempo. I hope to see it.

People complained about Grant never promoting the program. Now we have a guy who is busting his arse trying to promote the program and people don't like his slogan. You just can't win.

You can look at LSU, MSU or UF last year who had top flight talent and looked promising but never put it together
LSU had a great 2015 class, but Trent Johnson is an absolutely terrible head coach.
MSU only had one top 100 player in their class (Newman) and he had very little support from the returning players. Granted Weatherspoon (#104 on 247 comp) did outplay his ranking.
UF had no top 50 players and just 2 in the top 100 in the 2015 class
Alabama has 2 top 30 players, one of which is top 10, and another top 100 player to add to that list. We also have a highly-touted transfer who will be eligible next year and what should be a very solid returning group.
I understand hesitation in having high hopes for what seems to be a previously snake-bitten program, but the difference in those situations is enormous.

I do like the fact he is out promoting the program. AG was horrible and his offenses were horrible to watch.
