Go-Ahead Home Run from Megan Bloodworth Pushes Softball to 5-4 Win over Texas
The sixth-inning home run gave the Crimson Tide the one-run win over the Longhorns
Alabama softball beat Texas, 5-4, Friday night in a back-and-forth opening game of the T-Mobile Crimson Classic, with freshman Megan Bloodworth blasting the sixth-inning go ahead home run.
Alabama (17-0) got off to a hot start, scoring three runs in the first inning before Texas (10-8) responded with a two-run home run in the next half-inning. Ally Shipman drove in Dallis Goodnight off an RBI double in the third to make it a 4-2 ballgame, but another two-run shot from the Longhorns tied the game 4-4 in the fourth. The score remained tied until the bottom of the sixth, when Bloodworth crushed the 3-1 pitch down the left field line for a solo home run. Montana Fouts (7-0) closed out the win in the top of the seventh, retiring the side in order.
Bloodworth's home run was her team-leading fifth of the season but her first at Rhoads Stadium. Shipman stayed hot at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance, driving in two RBIs. Dallis Goodnight was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk, as the freshman has now reached safely in seven straight at-bats. Fouts earned the win in the circle with her sixth complete game of the season.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"First, I want to thank all of the people that came out tonight. We had a great crowd, really great weather and a great opponent. It was a fun way to open this tournament and battle through some stuff. We came through in the end and a freshman hit the home run to win it. I'm just really proud of this team and the effort they gave tonight. It was seven really hard-fought innings tonight."

Fouts was not her normal sharp self and gave up a few HR's but the hitting was big.
Not sure why Texas was 10-7 heading into that game. Is this not a good year for them or have they played some stout teams?

Not sure but they can certainly put some pop on stuff that misses over the plate!

Bad idea not to start Fouts, 4 straight walks and Texas leads 1-0 in the 2nd.

1-1
We have a runner on 3rd with only one out.
ETA: And we fricking pop up the bunt attempt. Jesus.

Torrence pitching and Fouts coming in. Getting quality innings from Torrence vs a quality team is bonus

Was hoping Jaala would have had a stronger performance against Texas. Great experience for her but it looks like the pressure got to her. Jury is still out (for me) with Alex - she looked good in some earlier games but didn’t against Miami OH. Glad Montana was able to step in and go the distance twice today. I’m anticipating Jaala starting today against Miami OH.
