Brandon was back home and in the stadium yesterday - perhaps to help with the recruiting weekend?
I don’t think it can be understated how much having a potential NBA superstar that truly loves the university could materially impact recruiting. Herb Jones and Brandon Miller are both very talented, very rich, and very much want to see the University of Alabama succeed in all sports, but especially basketball (both grew up fans of the university).
Lots of NBA players don’t have that kind of deep connection with the colleges they played for.

Perhaps news on the arena?

I believe that was more in reference to a potential commitment.

Just wishful thinking on my part

Seems like Sherrell will commit this week (possibly Tuesday, per the rumors I’ve seen), and then Reid may not be far behind him.

Tyler Betsey and Jase Richardson Visit Cincinnati
Wes Miller hosted a pair of high-profile visitors on campus this weekend.
Multiple sources indicated it’s a two-horse race for Tyler Betsey between Alabama and the Bearcats. Betsey recently canceled his visit to Duke and will likely be in decision-making mode in the coming weeks. As with many high-profile recruitments lately, there seems to be a split decision among Betsey’s camp. This one is too early to call right now.
As for Richardson, the Bearcats are looking to make up ground. Alabama and Michigan State are the teams to watch here.

Labaron Philon Visits Kansas
After missing out on Jalil Bethea, Kansas pivoted quickly to Labaron Philon and Rakease Passmore. The Jayhawks had Philon on campus this weekend and have firmly put themselves in the race for the four-star point guard. Ole Miss has long been considered the team to beat here thanks to Philon’s relationship with Wes Flanigan.
The other factor at play here is Passmore’s recruitment. Multiple sources indicated Arkansas is the team to beat there. He’s set to visit Fayetteville next week and there’s confidence around the program that they’ll be able to secure a commitment on the visit. If Kansas misses on Passmore, expect them to turn the heat up even further on Philon.

Derrion Reid Cutting His List
2024 five-star Derrion Reid made some phone calls over the weekend to eliminate schools from his recruitment. We don’t have an exact timeline on his decision yet, but it may be sooner rather than later. Two teams to watch here: Alabama and Florida State

The Latest On Aiden Sherrell
Aiden Sherrell delayed his commitment last month and multiple sources say he is finally ready to make an announcement. Look for Sherrell to make a decision on Tuesday.

2025 5* Joson Sanon tells me he will take an official visit to Alabama on October 14th.
Sanon is one of the top guard prospects in the ‘25 class who can score the ball from all three levels. An active defender on and off ball.
Has recently taken unofficial visits to Providence and Boston College. #9 in the ESPN60.

Practice has concluded. Sam Walters played great defense during the viewing, Mark Sears and Grant Nelson played well together, and Rylan Griffen looks more explosive than he was last season.
Coach Oats, Mark Sears, and Rylan Griffen will meet with the media next.

Five-Star SF Derrion Reid down to 3 schools
Derrion Reid, one of the top-ranked players in the class of 2024, has narrowed his list of schools down to three. Moving forward, the 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward of Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep will consider Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Reid is rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 14 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Reid is fresh off an official visit to Florida State over the weekend. Georgia hosted him officially this summer and he will return for a second go-around on October 6th. Reid’s final official visit will be to Alabama on October 20th. He says he does not have a commitment timeframe yet.
Along with his finalists, Reid also considered offers from Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Kansas State, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia Tech, and others.
Reid talks finalists
Reid briefly broke down each of his remaining suitors in an interview with On3.
Alabama: “(Alabama) has been here since the beginning and I love the way they play and what’s he’s done with his players.”
Georgia: “(They’ve) been there from the beginning. I have built a great relationship with their coaching staff and head coach and I like the way he coaches.”
Florida State: “I have a great connection with the entire coaching staff and I love the way they play and their play style.”
Scouting Report
“Derrion Reid has a great frame with good length. He is a good athlete that runs the floor extremely well, with a purpose. You like the upside he shows on the defensive end of the floor. He has the ability to slide his feet on the ball, and he has good anticipation in the passing lanes. He also has shown good court vision in the half-court. Standing in the 6-7 range, his ability to find the open man in the half-court or full-court setting can be a weapon. He has a great frame with good length. Reid has spent time re-tooling the jump shot; he shot 37.8% from three on the EYBL Circuit. He is a good rebounder and can knock down a mid-range pull-up. Reid is aggressive in transition and finishes with explosion at the rim. He has good timing on the defensive end, both in the passing lanes and as a help-side shot blocker. There are a lot of natural tools in play for Reid.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

Basketball practice note:
In order to enhance pace, it seemed like Alabama coaches were counting down from 5 to get the ball across halfcourt, as opposed to the normal 10 seconds you get in-game.
