Im interested to see how Walters shooting translates to college, he shot over 40% from three the last two years in high school. If he could do that in college at 6’9 that would be huge.

Griffen is a better shooter than he showed last year too he’s more than capable of shooting 35% or better from three.

Shooting is shooting. Court dimensions and basket size are the same for everyone. Whether he can shoot off the bounce at this level is a fair question, but catch and shoot is the same no matter where you're doing it.

I agree but it’s different when you’ve got supreme elite athletes defending you.

I think these guys will be able to play but I’ve been burned in the past too many times making these absolutes in the preseason about players and teams. In the last 15 years Bama has only lived up to the preseason hype twice(2021 and 2023) so I’m cautiously optimistic but won’t say absolutes until I see it.

I’d argue we materially outperformed preseason expectations in those 2 years. 2022 was a disappointing end, especially after the non-conference wins, but I’d probably say a 6 seed with a loss in 1st round after PG goes down to injury was close to meeting preseason expectations. JD underperforming really hurt that year but I wasn’t expecting a top 4 seed or deep tourney run that year given what we lost in 2021 (Herb, JP, Bruner, etc.).

So only twice in the last 3 years.

I really wish there was a statistics site where you could filter the results. I'm very curious what some percentages are at the beginning and after nearly everyone fell off.

It seemed like I remember Clowney shooting 3s at about 33-35% at one point. That's when he was being predicted as a borderline lottery pick. He at least showed enough that he can shoot, and will be take to get into the mid 30s or better.

Watch his film. Not only does he shoot a pretty 3 with a quick release. He does it off the dribble. For a big guy, that's uncommon, even for decent 3 shooters. He was also making some noise in the Iverson all star game practices (I think he got hurt during the game).

One thing is for sure, Griffin is a dawg. Dude plays fearless, and is eager to want to take over a game. I think he's going to have a good year.

Right now Torvik has us predicted as 23rd in the country. If we add Toussaint and Wague it would move us up to 15th. That’s about right IMO

I don’t know. In the mid 2010s we would have all killed a man to be a 6-seed like we were in 2022

I agree about wanting to see shooting percentages filtered for stages of the season AND open shots.

Clowney had that horrible 1-30 type slump but seemed to get back into a similar early season form after that, from memory.

The entire rest of the team seemed to shoot at least 10% points lower than their average on open 3 pointers in the last 10 or 12 games.

I just thought about this...we could possibly put this lineup on the floor.

Estrada (6'4)
Griffen (6'6)
Walters (6'9)
Stevenson (6'10)
Nelson (6'11)

That's scary!! All of them are athletic and fluid movers to.

That's a matchup nightmare...extremely skilled at every position and extremely long defensively.

Definitely. But even going in as a 6, it was pure doom and gloom, end pretty much everyone knew we'd be bounced quickly. We had gone to total shite by the end of the year.

We wouldve won that game if JQ hadn't gotten injured imo. Cormac Ryan from ND had the game of his life though. Looked like a white John Petty out there. Seemed like he hit 7 threes in the first half.

Wow. Good for Herb man. That's generational wealth for his family.

Hopefully he will work for free in 12 years when he comes back to coach.

I bet he still wears that pelicans gear everyday to save money too. Herb is different, in a great way.
