Yes they do and I think RJ Johnson will be a lot better than expected from day one.

I don't know about day one, but I do think he has a really good shot at outproducing his ranking. I think it's probably more likely to happen in year two than year one though.

Nate isn't scared to cut bait with a recruited player (Forbes, Hawkins, Tchikou, KAH, Holt) if it isn't working either. He's a lot more patient with transfers (Rojas, Beetle, Gurley), but maybe that has something to do with the transfer rules.

Is the prevailing thought now (since we didn't get Cooper) that we save the last spot (or 2) for a transfer(s) after the season? At this point, unless someone elite re-opened their recruitment that hasn't signed yet, this seems like the best case to get an impact guy.

Kris Parker is the only remaining 2023 kid that we are linked to. But I can't say for sure if the staff prefers to sign him or save that spot for the portal.

4-star Kris Parker postpones commitment date

Kris Parker, a four-star prospect in the class of 2023, has decided to postpone his commitment date and will no longer announce his college decision on December 12th. Instead, he plans to announce on a later date.

The 6-foot-7, 185-pound shooting guard out of Quincy (Fla.) Crossroad Academy has taken three official visits so far: Alabama, Villanova, and UCF. Parker is scheduled to officially visit Missouri on December 3rd.

Along with the schools mentioned above, Parker has also received offers from DePaul, NC State, Illinois, Florida State, amongst others. His college recruitment continues to remain open for the time being.

Parker ranks as the No. 90 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaulators are much higher on him, ranking him 66th overall in the class.

Parker Scouting Summary

“Kris Parker is a long and rangy wing,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “He has confidence on the ball in the half-court, and his ability as a shotmaker continues to rise. He will need to continue adding strength and overall sharpening his tools and shot selection. There is a lot of natural talent here. There is an upside still to go, and the intrigue lies with the fact he continues to get better a little better each time out.”

Introducing Caleb Holt, one of the top freshman guards in the country

Caleb Holt started high school just a few months ago, and he’s not only already made a name for himself in his home state of Alabama, but around the country.

Holt, a 6-foot-5 freshman out of New Market (Ala.) Buckhorn High is an ultra-quick, athletic, shifty guard. He can use his speed and handle to get to the rim and his strength allows him to finish through contact with defenders years older than him. Holt has also shown the ability to knock down the catch-and-shoot three. While he has the potential to be a great defender with his chiseled frame and positional size, more effort needs to be presented on that side of the ball first.

The Alabama native turned 15 years old over the weekend, and half the Southeastern Conference has offered him a scholarship. Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Florida, Ole Miss, Georgia, and others have extended scholarships.

The work is only getting started for Holt, who says he gets up at 6 a.m. every morning, seven days a week, to get up 500 shots with his father.

Holt is still four years away from arriving on a college campus, but he already knows what he’s looking for.

“Somewhere I can develop,” he says. “Somewhere I can fit in well, bond with my teammates and everything.”

Holt grew up a fan of which two schools?

Despite being raised in the state of Alabama — where football culture is as good as gospel — Holt didn’t grow up rolling with the Tide, or chanting ‘War Eagle.’

Instead, he grew up a Georgia football fan, and a North Carolina basketball fan. In fact, he even went as far as to say that UNC was his dream school. His all-time favorite Tar Heel? Kenny Smith, who just so happened to be his former AAU coach, while playing with Aim High Jet Academy in Atlanta.

If Holt continues to improve and develop, it won’t be long until the Tar Heels come calling. But no matter where he ends up playing his college ball, he’s bringing game to wherever he goes.

In summary, Holt might be young, but his future is bright.

Top 2024 prospects go on record about their recruitment

With over 90% of the 2023 class either signed or committed, let’s jump ahead and take a look at the 2024 class. For most members in the junior class, it’s early. Many of them are distant from making a decision, but I decided to check in and see where things currently stand.

4-star Labaron Philon (PG)
On3 Consensus Ranking: No. 43
Hometown: Mobile, AL
School: Baker (Mobile, AL)

Q: What schools are you hearing from the most frequently?
Auburn, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Creighton, Cincinnati.

Q: What schools would you like to visit?
Arkansas, Creighton, Tennessee.

Auburn is the lone school to have hosted Philon on an official visit. He’s been to Alabama and LSU unofficially.

Watched Baker vs Fairhope tonight. Great game...Philon is legit, but Fairhope won. They've got some kid (#10) that's a junior that looked insane shooting tonight. Maybe the best shooting effort I've ever seen in a high school game.

Speculating a bit here but assuming we lose

Miller
Quinerly
Gurley
Dom Welch
Miles

that would free up 6 spots counting the open scholarship we already have.

We have 4 guys signed now, so that would give us two more spots to fill. I assume we would go after a couple of top transfers.

We, of course, could lose Clowney if he keeps playing the way he has been but I don't even want to think about that yet, hopefully, we get him another year.
