2023 4* Freddie Dillone tells me he's on his way to visit Alabama and Nate Oats.

Dillone is an excellent athlete that can really score the basketball. Alabama will be the first school he visits since releasing his Top 10 this past weekend.

#70 in the '23 class, per @247Sports.

Open practice Saturday morning at 10:00 Coleman. Just posted this morning on rolltide.com, and Tide Pride members may have received an email. I went to practice yesterday with Birmingham (Bama Tip Off Club) and Tuscaloosa Tip Off Clubs. This practice tomorrow will be well worth your time if you are a Bama Basketball fan. We really do have serious talent. It would be interesting to see everyone's take on which five you put in in a late, tight game. Hope y'all show up. I think this was a last minute decision/ announcement.

I'll post his full interview later but he's OVing Bama the first weekend of September. At Wake this weekend and will OV UVA in early August.

Hank South on recruit Davin Cosby. Ranked 179 right now on 247 but is blowing up right now.

Oats and Co. are in very early with a lot of kids who are blowing up/blooming right now. I like that a lot

I’ve gone back and forth in my head about going but I don’t think I can justify the 190 mile round trip for a practice. Hopefully those closer will attend and post their thoughts.

Top-25 forward Devin Royal narrows list of schools to three

Class of 2023 four-star Devin Royal tells On3 he’s down to three schools: Alabama, Michigan State, and Ohio State.

The 6-foot-6 versatile forward out of Pickerington (Ohio) Central will no longer consider Michigan, Marquette, Penn State, Clemson, Miami, and Ole Miss.

Royal has made official visits to Michigan State and Ohio State.

Royal talks finalists

In a previous interview with On3, Royal discussed each of the programs in his final group.

Alabama: “I really like their playstyle. I have a really good relationship with the head coach and the whole coaching staff.”

Ohio State: “Their program is really nice, and I like the coaches; we have a good relationship. They want me to be a wing player, be like an EJ Liddell. Make an impact like he did.”

Michigan State: “They came in late, but they came strong. I like what the coaches are saying. They like that I can do a lot of things on the court; they talk about how my versatility fits in with what they do.”

What’s Royal looking for in a school?

“Relationships are a big key,” Royal says. “How I’ll fit in, the players they have there, and wherever I go, I want to be surrounded by players that want to work. Players that want to dedicate themselves to the game. As well as the coaching staff and how they treat their players.”

Scouting Summary

Devin Royal has long arms and a strong frame. The 6-foot-6 forward is an advanced scorer with a great feel. He has touch and range off the catch from three. Royal moves well off the ball, finds the open space in the defense, has great balance, and is squared up at the basket. The foot speed may be a question and would like to see him rebound at a higher rate. He is a tweener forward, but his offensive feel would allow him to play either way. He is a bonafide top 100 talent.

Broad shoulders, long arms. A face-up forward. High IQ and can handle, shoot, and pass. An active rebounder. Plays within self. Nice vertical pop. Quick first step from mid-post creates free throw opportunities. Makes his free throws. Many similarities to Mason Gillis. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst

I think Ohio State is considered to be the favorite.

There are a few different video clips from today's practice on Mathey Gibson's Twitter feed.

Burnett electric? Miles stepping up and taking ownership of the team? Chemistry already good?

Someone is going to get hit by a scooter in Paris and sustain a serious lower leg injury aren't they? You know, just Alabama basketball things.

Way too much sloppy shite in that video for my liking, but you can see there is a lot of good things in there if they clean it up a little bit.

They also seem to be playing at like 70% speed. It's hard to take much away from scrimmages since they're playing themselves. You saw sloppy, but I saw what looked like more active, disruptive defense than what we typically did last year.
