Woke up this morning feeling chipper about Dom Welch shooting corner 3s

First thing I thought of was all those corner three's that Gary bricked from the corner.

Herb should have been first team. Jalen Green was a tank commander.

I'm just glad we signed a guy who has a very well established track record of success with outside shooting. Sears just has the one season of production. Burnett was billed as a great shooter as a recruit and was apparently our best shooter in practice before getting hurt, but was awful at Texas Tech. Gurley has been really up and down from 3 in his career. Miles has proven he can be a decent shooter, but needs to show more consistency. And who knows what the freshmen will be. We really needed someone we can confidently say will knock down open shots from outside.

Agree - kid was a perfect add. As consistent a track record of high level 3 point shooting as you will find in a college player (3 years of high volume at 35+%). And, clearly an above average defender who has shown the ability to play solid team defense if Mark Adams was heavily recruiting him to Texas Tech.
I mean, I fretted about it like everybody else, but hats off to Nate and Hodg for getting their guy. He's exactly what we needed on this roster.
The lineup flexibility next year is going to be fantastic.

2023 T-Rank Projections
OVERALL : #23 (#31 in 2022)
OFFENSE : #15 (#16 in 2022)
DEFENSE : #52 (#100 in 2022)
- Didn't include JQ because we don't know what we'll get there
- Usage Rates/Off & Def Ratings based on prior years at Alabama for certain players as well as players prior figures at Alabama or other locations. For instance, I expected Bediako to have more usage this year but with that for his offensive rating to drop a little bit. JD had an offensive rating of 104.5 last year and JQ had one of 102.2, just for reference on how even guys who didn't have great offensive years still had decent offensive rating numbers because of how we play offense.
- The "adjustment factor" is just strength of schedule. I anticipate us having a very good SoS this year, but not quite as insane as last year.
- My minutes projections are just that, projections
- The rank is where the Adjusted Rating falls in the linked 2023 Torvik Projection rankings above
Personally, I think we'll be better than this defensively. But I would rather be conservative about it. And I also tried to lean towards the conservative side with Miller and Bradley.
So, long story short, these figures feel like a floor for this team.

I might be making a reach here, but assuming Welch does enroll and doesn’t have a season ending injury, I firmly believe he will provide a better stat line than what Holt did for us last year.

Well I'd hope so

Alabama basketball is where the lines between absurdity and reality become almost too blurred for biting sarcasm

It's a steep hill to climb for sure, but I believe Welch can average over 1ppg and make 12% of his 3s.

But can he tik tok from his dorm during a game?

He's 23, so I doubt it. I bet he's more of an Instagram Live kind of guy. Tik Tok is for teenagers.
