We really need some more news before we start arguing over school sizes again. I'm about to start making up rumors on twitter.

My point is we should have kept Gary and Holt bc they didn't go to smaller schools searching for minutes. They made somewhat lateral moves.
It's not up to the staff whether they stay or go, it's up to them. And the notion that they transferred to play the same role at a couple of significantly worse programs is just silly. They absolutely, without a doubt picked those schools primarily because they're two of the very few where you get both the benefits of P-6 conference exposure and the benefits of walking into what amounts to a bad mid-major roster.

SOL EXCLUSIVE: Alabama's coaching staff continues to keep tabs on several recent additions to the NCAA transfer portal. Nate Oats and the Tide are looking for a big wing who can shoot the ball, as well as a combo guard for their backcourt.

What's the definition of a "Big" Wing?
Posted on 5/12/22 at 2:55 pm to auisssa
Julian Phillips commited to the Vols.

On Reddit Vols fans saying they gave him $2M. I just don’t see us ever paying that for a player

Yeah that’s wild, all it takes is one deep tourney run and boosters will buy in. Hopefully that comes sooner rather than later or at all.
Posted on 5/12/22 at 3:13 pm to IRobbedMyMom
Tennessee hasn't had one under Barnes though. They're just desperate to stay relevant in sports generally after their athletics department has been horribly mismanaged for the last 15+ years.

That’s true, the boosters are cool with football shitting on everyone for the meantime. We’re a winning university past, present, and future. If the results are there so will the money.

It just blows my mind that in a little over a decade we have gone from Cam getting $200,000 from Auburn being seen as a pretty obscene pay for play to a dude not even included in any 2023 mock drafts that I've seen getting 10x that much.
Posted on 5/12/22 at 3:46 pm to Robot Santa
don't think the money will fall when these boosters see no return and most will provide no return?
Posted on 5/12/22 at 4:16 pm to McGregor
No, because profit isn't the goal. Winning is the goal, and hoarding elite talent is a big part of winning. If the talent doesn't produce wins, the boosters will just blame the coach, have him fired, and continue buying talent for the next guy. The whole premise of NIL (players being able to profit off of business relationships) is faulty because it never accounted for the fact that there are thousands of wealthy boosters out there who regularly give away 6, 7, and 8 figure sums to their schools and are not motivated by a monetary return on those investments.

College Basketball Recruiting Rankings: Top 20 classes for 2022
The final 247Sports ranking of the class of 2022 are complete and now that the top 150 is set, the team rankings picture — fueled by the 247Sports Composite — has become clear.
Eric Musselman and Arkansas made a strong run at the top spot by landing a trio of five-stars led by the nation’s No. 1 player Nick Smith. But it wasn’t enough to beat out new kid on the block, Jon Scheyer, for the top spot as Scheyer’s first haul at Duke includes four of the top 12 players in the senior class and gives the Blue Devils the No. 1 ranked recruiting class. The margin between Duke and Arkansas was a miniscule one point (71.05 to 70.05).
There may still be some movement as the last few remaining players in the class make their decisions and current juniors reclassify but as of today here’s a look at the top 20 incoming classes in 2022.

NO. 3 ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
The Class: Brandon Miller, Jaden Bradley, Rylan Griffen, Noah Clowney and Nick Pringle
Bossi’s analysis: Recruiting in the SEC has become incredibly competitive and isn’t for the weak of stomach. Nate Oats looks like he’s got an iron gut as he’s been able to roll up his sleeves and go toe to toe with some of the country’s most accomplished recruiters to put together a top three class.
A five-star small forward with a sweet stroke from deep, Miller is a big wing that could conceivably play some small ball four. Bradley is a patient, under control floor general who will arrive having played a lot of high-level games during his high school career. Griffen is a wildly athletic wing who has one of the best mid-range pull-ups in the class. Clowney gives them an athletic four man to develop while Pringle is an SEC athlete and one of the top five juco players in the country.

You sure he's referencing Mayer?

Not 100% sure but Auburn fans seem to think so. And I’m not sure there’s too many impact transfers left from the Big 12.

I just hadn't seen AU and Mayer mentioned together anywhere, so was just wondering.

Depends on how you define impact transfers, I guess. Evan Miya has Mayer, Kevin McCullar, Tyrese Hunter, Isaac Likekele, Courtney Ramey, Tre Mitchell and Umoja Gibson all ranked as 5* portal guys available from the B12. But that's just one set of rankings, so who knows. Mayer going to AU would suck big time.

All the freshmen better be ready to play serious minutes, because they're probably going to need to.
