Alabama is having yet another mass exodus from a good bit of key position groups that for whatever reason, mostly did horrible down the stretch. This was patched up by fantastic pre-injury play by Simpson but the band-aid started peeling off once he wasn’t able to hide what was underneath.

Courtney already does amazing things don’t get me wrong. But really hitting the portal and getting top quality guys this time around will tell me what he’s made of under pressure. I don’t think this offseason will be as tough on Deboer as it will Courtney to be honest. He’s really gotta crunch numbers, snag good players, revamp Alabama’s roster and get guys aligned with Grubb and Kalen’s offense (however futile that may be).

If we can just nail the O-line in the portal I will be FINE. Defense was hit and miss most of the season due to horrendous gap discipline by the secondary so uhhhhhh whatever happens to the linebacking corps I couldn’t give less of a frick about cause that’s just coaching. Will definitely miss Lawson though. What a god damn mother fricking dawg when he was locked in.

Offensive line is far and away most important.

If we are looking at the portal like an NFL GM looks at a draft board- then we should be doing everything in our power to sign at least the top 2 OL on our board and ideally the top 3.

Carroll and William Sanders look like our only guys returning with legitimate game action. This is kind of something I touched on in another post though. If Lloyd isn't ready to go, you have to bring in a starting caliber left tackle. That's another year of Lloyd not playing, and he's a long way from home. At the end of next year, he'd be a high probability portal guy.

Lloyd, Sanders, Transfer, Transfer, Carroll.

That's our worst case scenario as starters going into next year (not saying it's a terrible scenario, just the baseline), but also most likely.

With as much musical chairs that we played on the line this year and the lack of snaps Lloyd played, he is probably going to have to make a major leap to grab that spot.

One thing I know is that we can't go bargain hunting this season in the portal. Another 4 loss season next year and that seats on fire. There better be some urgency in this window. We can't afford to not get better

Not me. That guy was consistently not shedding blocks, not attacking gaps, missing assignments, bump tackling, etc.

I know he was injured prior, but the guy wasn’t good.

I thought he was good the last couple seasons, but he definitely wasn’t the same player this season

Maybe I’m being harsh about him, but from a straight “football perspective”, he just didn’t have the type of LB play I would expect from an Alabama team. Granted, we’ve all been spoiled by guys like Hightower, Upshaw, Moseley, etc., but that twitch just wasn’t there. Bad angles most of the time, stuff like that.

As a person, the dude is great, and I respect what he’s done. I’m glad he stuck around and helped the younger players.

Nope, he just wasn’t very good this season. I thought both of the other 2 middle guys were better

Lawson has always been average. Hill-green was a pretty good player.
Jefferson played over his head. He’s shorter than he needed to be and smaller. Good speed tho. And a high effort guy.
