SOG...they don't run when they can pass on us....Aight

What is our standing on 3rd downs? Have we gotten any better as the games roll along?

I mean they've tried

Miami - 31 for 87
Ole Miss - 34 for 78
A&M - 27 for 94
LSU - 40 for 109
Arkansas - 42 for 110

Somehow we are #18 nationally. No clue how.

In the SEC vs P5 teams we are #4 (35.4%). Georgia is actually only slightly better at 3rd (35.2%).

4th down conversions though.......LOLOLOL

62.5% against (15/24)

Miami - 1/2
Florida - 2/3
Ole Miss - 2/5
Tennessee - 0/1
LSU - 5/7
Arkansas - 3/3

So in the last 2 SEC games opponents are 8/10 against us on 4th downs. That will destroy everything.

This is the best defense we have had in a long time. They are good hearted kids and put in a lot of work and I appreciate it very much.

You are both stupid and bad at trolling. And you are terrified of Georgia winning a title because you are more obsessed with them than you are Alabama.

Alabama's defense isn't great. It is very good at defending the run. Sorry that makes you break out in hives.

Stetson will have plenty of time to throw the ball. Our lb’s will have a difficult time covering - we will have to score over 48 to win.

Can we stop saying GA is one of the “elite” teams in college football?

Posted on 10/29/20 at 3:21 pm

They have “elite” talent but haven’t won the respect of the nation. They have choked every time. They are quickly becoming the Norte dame of the south - nobody wants to see them play on the big stage - they know the outcome. A loss.

Listen, there isn’t a more entitled fan base on the planet than them. They are “always” gonna win it “this” year. And now - the ship is sinking - no considerable sec quality qb and their hopes are dashed - I guess it will be 41 years and counting... the saga ebbs on.

He's been around since 2015. He posts bad takes like that one literally every single year.

Also, in reference to your earlier 3rd and 4th down stats, where are you pulling that info?

Stopping them just short on 3rd down doesn't mean anything if they're just going to go for it, convert and extend the drive. It would be interesting to combine 3rd and 4th down defense into a "got off the field" stat and see how that compares to everyone else.

I'd also be curious to see how many times opponents go for it on 4th against us vs how many times opponents have attempted 4th down conversions against other top teams.

It may just be my impression, but it feels like go for it a lot more against us than I see in other games. I attribute that to how efficient our offense is - they know if they go down a service break they aren't getting it back - but I'd like to see it in actual numbers.

I added that in the next post - and our 4th down numbers are horrendous. Like you said, 3rd down doesn't matter if you then just give it up on 4th down (which we've done, a lot).

Arkansas and LSU went 8/10 on 4th down against us. Insane.

But many of them were 4th and 3rd down situation?

were most in red zone situation?
Bama defense hasn't been good in redzone situation. If a team cross over 50 yards, we are likely to give up TD or FG.

Yep - which is why our Yard Per Point numbers are so bad. We tend to either quickly get stops or give up drives that almost certainly turn into points.

I didn't have anything better to do this morning, so I played around with the numbers a bit. SummerOfGeorge has already hit the high points.

Opponents have converted 51 of 155 third downs against us (32.9%), which is pretty good; we're 18th in the country.

However, it's worth noting the number of third-down conversions we're forcing isn't great. Ideally you'd want that number to be on the high end, which means opponents are facing third down, rather than converting on first or second down. We're tied for 73rd in the country at forcing a third-down situation. (Auburn, incidentally, is 50th [150 third downs]; Georgia is 121st [176 third downs]).

Fourth-down conversions are terrible, though. We've faced 24 conversion attempts, and allowed 15 of them (62.5%). That puts us at 100th in the country.

All in all, our defense allows opponents to sustain drives 36.7% of the time (65 out of 177). We get off the field on third or fourth down 63.3% of the time.

This post and your post in the pinned thread at the top are excellent stuff Sauron

I think the long and short of it is we basically give up maximum damage for the yardage we allow. The opposite of a bend but don't break defense. We are a tightly held string that holds quite a bit and holds quickly, but when it breaks it breaks completely. There isn't a lot of cushion to withstand opponents offenses when they start moving the ball. We just crumble.

Alabama is 75th in opponent red zone td scoring % defense and 103rd in red zone scoring defense. Georgia is number one defensively, in both.
