Team Defense Stats through 11 games (Bama #1 in Yards Per Play Def Nationally)

Total Defense: 265 YPG (5th best of Saban Era)
Rush Defense: 77.81 YPG (2.47 YPC) (4th best of Saban Era)
Pass Defense: 187.18 YPG (5.68 YPA) (7th best of Saban Era)
Scoring Defense: 14.45 PPG (6th best of Saban Era)
Update: Bama is #1 in the country in Yards Per Play Defense (4.12)

Reflection of the quality of our schedule maybe? Our D this year seems like is very good. I think the pass rush is why i feel that way.

This is his second best defense he has had. Early in the season that wasn't the case. The secondary has developed and is playing great football right now to match the front 7. So, right now, it is his second best defense. Especially if a ref would ever call holding... Tim Williams gets held or makes a play virtually every snap.

given the way offenses have changed since he took the helm, this is clearly one of the top 2 or 3 defenses we've had ...

Regardless of what the stats say, this defense is in contention with the 09 defense for 2nd best of Saban era. 2011 stands alone, but 2nd would be amazing.

I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have this defense at this point than the 2011 defense. 2011 didn't have this unreal pass rush.

Yeah. The 2011 defense played some bad offenses, and there's no reason to think this team woundn't dominate like they did.

Most of this. For me this is the 2nd best of the Saban Era, with 2012 and 2009 making a claim for the #2 spot as well.
