AL.COM-Status unclear for Alabama sophomore LB
quote:

Alabama’s inside linebacker group will be without one of its most promising players for at least the time being. Sophomore Ale Kaho wasn’t at the Crimson Tide’s practice on Friday and it’s unclear when or if he’ll be return to practice with the team. “He’s got some issues that he’s dealing with," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "We’re trying to be supportive of him every way that we can. I think that we’ll just continue to try to help him every way that we can. I don’t know if at some point in time he’ll be ready to come back and play football or not.” Kaho was expected to challenge for the Tide’s starting inside linebacker job next to Dylan Moses.

The former four-star recruit had a team-high seven tackles on the kickoff coverage team last season.

1st group today - Moses - McMillon
2's Benton - Moody
3's Lee

Plug in Kaho where you will, but at this time there seems to be a big hole in the ILB group... either take a CB/S and move them down (See Mark Barron of the Rams) or one of the overflow from the OLB's and move them in. Seems like time to make those moves could not be better than now!!!

BamaOnLine - Saban: Absent Alabama LB Ale Kaho dealing with 'some issues'
quote:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- One of Alabama’s promising young linebackers was not at the Crimson Tide’s first practice of the spring Friday afternoon, and now his status is currently in question. Sophomore inside linebacker Ale Kaho was not spotted at Friday’s inaugural spring practice on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields, and head coach Nick Saban provided a post-practice update. “He’s got some issues that he’s dealing with,” Saban said. “We’re trying to be supportive of him every way that we can. I think that we’ll just continue to try to help him every way that we can.
“I don’t know if there will be some point in time whether he’ll be ready to come back and play football or not.”

A late signee for Alabama who arrived with fall camp already started, Kaho played a key role on special teams while seeing time on defense. He totaled 11 tackles on the season, seven of which came on kickoff coverage to lead all special teams players. The freshman also added one fumble recovery to his totals and was named a two-time special teams players of the week.

Kaho was the nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker and No. 21 overall prospect in 2018, according to 247Sports.

With Kaho not participating in drils, Alabama was left with five scholarship inside linebackers -- Dylan Moses, Joshua McMillon, Markail Benton, Jaylen Moody and true freshman Shane Lee. The Tide saw last year’s starter Mack Wilson declare for the 2019 NFL Draft in January.

The Crimson Tide will reconvene for its second spring practice Monday, March 18, after spring break.
Afterwards, I will have excerpts from every practice analysis and report plus facts gleaned from Travis Reier's "Instant Analysis" live on Facebook.

Until then any facts/speculations/or out right wild arse guesses about the state of the team during the spring practices will be added.

Mucho thanks to Surge for adding lots of BOL stuff, I had not have time to gather and post yet. The more that do makes it easier for all

I have a question. I don't mean this to implicate anyone on the team, it's just a honest question.

How do doctors and the team view players with a drug addiction or an alcohol addiction?
Is it viewed as a mental problem and they will help them work through things if they admit that they need help or is it viewed, "he better get clean or he's gone"?

Again, this is just a question because I don't know how things are handled now. Back in my day, it would have been swept under the rug or you would have gotten tossed without any help

Seems CC's son (who never saw the field) spent time in rehab or so it was rumored... seems like they treat the disease and help the kids as much as they can.

after blowing off all of last year and he would have been a R-Sr (seems his clock has run out, but I am not an expert on that) But in my opinion, there is no shot he will return or even if he wished to, have the time.

When I was younger, I didn't have sympathy for addiction problems, but as I've gotten older, I've realized that it has to be more than just a choice.

I did some volunteer work for a sucide crisis line for a few years. One of the trainings we took was drug addiction impacts and effects. There are so many things that impact everyone so differently and many that takes only one hit to become addicted.
I am fortunate not to have ever tired any of these and do not seem to have an addictive trait.
If someone who puts their body in harms way so often tries something to ease their pain and becomes addicted... well, God help them rid themselves of the pain and the addiction

I don't understand addiction, but I realize that it has to be hell.

Thank you for your work with the suicide crisis line. I wish more people would reach out and get help. My dad committed suicide in 1983. Mental health still seems to have a taboo stigma but it's much better than it was back then.

TideSports.Com - Practice Notes 3/8
quote:

Just got back from the first day of Alabama spring football practice. The team will have one practice today before splitting for spring break (which started today). They’ll be back on Monday, March 18. Terrin and I tried to check in on every position group, and we got just about all of them. The team was working in shorts with no pads today as they begin the acclimatization period. Here are some observations from the open period.
Quarterbacks – The quarterbacks were working in groups of two. Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones were in the first group, followed by Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson. Layne Hatcher was in a separate group with Braxton Barker and Kyle Edwards.
Running backsNajee Harris went through drills first, followed by Brian Robinson Jr., then Jerome Ford. They’re the only three scholarship running backs on campus this spring.

Wide receivers – The receivers were doing a drill in groups of four, led by DeVonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, Tyrell Shavers and Henry Ruggs III. Shavers is on the baseball roster but has not yet played in a game this season (there’s a baseball game going on right now, in fact). The second group was John Metchie, Jaylen Waddle, Xavier Williams and Slade Bolden.
Tight ends – They were doing blocking drills in groups of two, led by Miller Forristall and Major Tennison. The next group was a couple of walk-ons, followed by a group with another walk-on with Michael Parker. Neither of us saw Kedrick James with the group. We did see a player with jersey number 20, which might be Cameron Latu. He wasn’t with the outside linebackers. Couldn’t verify it because they were too far away to get a good look at his face.

Continued TideSports.Com notes 3/8
quote:

Offensive line – There wasn’t much order or rhyme or reason to the offensive line today as far as we could discern, and certainly no five-man formations. But did see Jedrick Wills, Alex Leatherwood, Matt Womack, Emil Ekiyor Jr. and Evan Neal were all out there. We’ll check in on them as we get more opportunities.
Defensive line – Didn’t get a good look at this group; we’ll check on them when they return. Former defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson was at practice watching the group go through drills.
Outside linebackers – Anfernee Jennings and Terrell Lewis were the first two players in drills. Chris Allen and Eyabi Anoma were the next two players. Jarez Parks was after that. We didn’t see Cameron Latu in this group (see tight ends). Lewis and Allen both had knee braces on.
Inside linebackers – Dylan Moses was the first player through drills, followed by Josh McMillon and Jaylen Moody. Early enrollee Shane Lee was after them. Didn’t see Ale Kaho during the viewing period.
Cornerbacks – As expected, Trevon Diggs and Patrick Surtain II were the first two corners in drills. Nigel Knott and Jalyn Armour-Davis were the next pair. Josh Jobe was in another group, though I didn’t see who he was with. Scooby Carter, an early enrollee, was paired with a walk-on. Nick Saban was working with the cornerbacks along with Karl Scott.
Safety – Shyheim Carter was with the safeties and the only player I saw wearing a black jersey. Xavier McKinney was going through drills followed by Jared Mayden, Daniel Wright, Eddie Smith and a walk-on.

First he drops weight, now Parker is running behind walk ons.

Plenty of time left for him, but there's a huge opportunity right now at TE.

Thanks guys, for taking the time from your busy lives, jobs and schedules to collect and put together all the information in this thread. It is greatly appreciated!!!
For Kaho we pray that God will release him from whatever issue he is dealing with right now.

Insider Report on Alabama Crimson Tide football: Spring practice No. 1
about 11 minutes of many groups running thru drills. can get a idea of the "line up" for many of the groups. May have one or two out of order, but this is some of what I saw on the video

OLB's
33 Jennings
24 Lewis
4 Allen
9 Anoma
23 Parks
55 WO William Cooper
96 WO Taylor Wilson

DL
99 Davis
48 Mathis
89 Ray
56 Alfano
91 Musika
58 Barmore
90 Wynn
94 Dale
92 Eboigbe
61 WO Pearman
98 WO Q. Watkins

ILB's really lean group almost as many WO's as scholly players *Benton's placement may not be correct
32 Moses
40 McMillon
35 Lee
42 Moody
36 Benton
54 WO Drake
57 WO Donald
51 WO Baumhower
53 WO ??
quote:

BamaInsider.Com
— 32 Moses led the inside linebackers and was followed by 40 Joshua McMillon, 35 Shane Lee, 42 Jaylen Moody, 54 Trae Drake (walk-on), 57 Joe Donald (walk-on) and 36 Markail Benton.
— Shane Lee is the latest freakish freshman to arrive at Alabama. He has a really thick build and tree trunks for legs.

So does anyone know what “issues” Kaho is dealing with? We really need this guy to play this year.
