LINK ]Takeaways from Alabama’s second spring scrimmage - al.com By Matt Zenitz | mzenitz@al.com
quote:

Alabama had the second of its three spring scrimmages on Saturday.

While the scrimmage was closed to the media, here are some notes based on information gathered through sources:

DJ Dale continues to look like someone who’s probably going to make an immediate impact along the Alabama defensive line. The freshman from Clay-Chalkville has impressed throughout the spring and has been working with the first-team defense at nose tackle, including on Saturday. One source has gone as far as saying the 6-foot-3, 315-pound Dale looks like he could end up being Daron Payne 2.0 for the Crimson Tide. He’s been that impressive. Nick Saban said of Dale on Saturday, “He’s got good initial quickness, good power, strikes, seems to be pretty conscientious (and) shows a little maturity about being able to go out there and do his job.”

— It sounds like it was a rough scrimmage for Alabama’s reserve quarterbacks. Word is that current backup Mac Jones had four interceptions.

— Sophomore cornerback Josh Jobe, who continues to work with the first-team defense, had two or three interceptions, including a pick-six. Safety Xavier McKinney, cornerback Trevon Diggs and backup safeties Eddie Smith and Daniel Wright were among the other guys with interceptions. Tua Tagovailoa was responsible for two of the interceptions but was also responsible for several touchdown passes.

LINK ]Takeaways from Alabama’s second spring scrimmage - al.com By Matt Zenitz | mzenitz@al.com...Continued...
quote:

Jaylen Waddle, Alabama’s super-talented sophomore wide receiver, was very active during the scrimmage. It sounds like Waddle had a good amount of catches, showed off his ability to generate yards after the catch and scored two touchdowns. One of them was a touchdown catch-and-run of about 20 yards during which Waddle eluded multiple defensive players on his way to the end zone.

Tagovailoa and Henry Ruggs hooked up for a long touchdown. Freshman wide receiver John Metchie, who had two touchdowns in the first spring scrimmage, also scored. He beat freshman cornerback Scooby Carter for a touchdown.

— It sounds like redshirt senior Josh McMillon is still the leader in the competition for the inside linebacker spot next to Dylan Moses.

— The feedback was once again great regarding the top two running backs — Najee Harris and Brian Robinson. Harris had at least one touchdown as well as some nice-sized runs during which he broke multiple tackles.

— Word is that third-string running back Jerome Ford also made some plays after also having some good moments during the team’s first spring scrimmage. The redshirt freshman had a touchdown run of about 20 yards as well as at least one other run of 20 or so yards. Chadarius Townsend had a touchdown, too. Townsend, a converted wide receiver who has been working with the running backs throughout the spring, had a touchdown run of around 10 yards.

What a dumbass.Guy learnt nothing in his time here.

Harrison was overly emotional as a player as well. He's talented, but not the brightest bulb in the pack. Deep down, he's pissed because he knows Saban is right. He's making 3rd round money, when he could have waited 1 year and been a 1st rounder and made 10+ million more. It was a dumb move, and Saban was right. The truth is a tough pill to swallow for some. Still wish him the best in his career.

JMO but I believe Ronnie understood completely what Nick and staff told him about returning and trying to improve and grow money. He wanted to move on from college football and take whatever money came his way more than return for year 4. Best of luck to him.

There was no cursing or anything close to it.

It was a mild 'outburst' from a self-admitted hothead.

Wow.

Are you serious? You give out "wows" easy. Like super easy. You must go through your day like, "A doorknob? Wow." Or "That picture is slightly askew. Wow."

Reading the replies to Ronnie H; seems everyone agrees with Saban. Ronnie all butt hurt because he really knows that he took a payday and left the real money on the table. Problem is that he will never recover that money. He just has to pray that he doesnt get hurt and can get better so that he does hang until the next contract and he can get a decent paycheck. Best of luck Ronnie, and STFU "don't hit send"

Nothing in life is, but that's more than likely the way it would have played out. This is a weak safety class. He almost assuredly would be a 1st rounder in the 2019 draft even if he didn't improve his play his senior year.

Since the most recent bargaining agreement with the players union the 1st rounders get really good money, but it drops off dramatically after that. Everybody else has to earn that second contract and often by time they get to the second contract they've already collected injuries that diminishes their worth. I know a cool million sounds like a lot of money but when you're 21 years old, and you don't grasp how much of that the US Government is going to take, and you have no concept of how much money it's going to take for you to live for the next 40 years that money will get gone pretty quick. Jay Barker didn't start but was on the roster for a number of years. He said a high percentage of guys were literally broke by time their playing career ended. Certainly not all of them, I have a friend who's cousin has been a starting DB in the league for about 6 or 8 years. I think he started as a free agent. He's looking to sign one more contract and hang it up. He didn't expect to get rich in football so he was wise with his money and he's going to be just fine from here on out. But it was because he used the money as a boost, not as something he expected to live off of.

The sage of Bama rant has spoken. Get off your pontificating soapbox and stuff your condescending bullshite. Don't like what I said just say so and move on.
No need to write long point by point treatises to show off your superior argumentative skills. This is not the place or the forum for it.
Do you really have so much time on your hands to pollute these boards with long winded dissertations over and over again?
And please do not respond to my post with more pompous nonsense. There are other posters here who are least interested in our discourse.

Player breakdown from coaching clinic:

OL- Everyone is impressed with Flood. More intense and focused on little things that make you better. The OL will be better this year, but right now they are up and down due to new Tech and coaching style. Sounds like LT will be 70 and RT will be 74 but the interior will continue to rotate. Sounds like Owens will be the C and LG will be Corn when his suspension is over. Neal doing a nice job in his place for now. RG will be a good battle between Womack and Ekyor. Look for Womack to finish this week at RT. Quick, Bowles and Kite have all flashed.

DL- Baker is the other new position coach besides Flood with the most buzz around him. Ray has been a monster. The top new comer has been Dale who is real close to beating out Mathis for the #1 NG job. This will create some nice depth inside with Barmoore and Wynn. Alfano has been slowed by a concussion but the TRF DL class is legit.

OLB- This will be a team strength come Sept. Anoma has finally gotten it all together. Sunseri has had a impact on him. Getting a 100% Lewis and Allen back will be a gamechanger.

ILB- The WLB is the biggest issue on the team right now. Need to find someone to play next to Moses by Sept. Some buzz around Lee.

DBs- Mayden is having a great spring. The back end is loaded and deep. Will be a team strength if pass rush is decent.

K- Looks like Reichert is winning the job right now.

TE- right now is the 2nd main issue on the team after WLB. If james can ever get his shite together is is considered a future starter and possible star......But there are alot of ifs with him. Both foristall and Parker are consider too light and weak to be inline guys. There is a walkon named Amos that is trending at both H and FB.

WR- Metchie has been a huge addition. Furure star. slade Bolden has had a nice Spring.

RB- Najee, BRob and ford all had fantastic Springs. Sanders might be ready, but he wont have to be.

QB- In a perfect World they want Jones to get his shite together so they can RS Baby Tua.

Additional Notes....

* Staff is super pissed at both Cornbread and K James

* Townsend is a example of a great athlete that cant get on the field due to the depth at WR.

* Latu may be a perm solution at TE. Flashing some.

* Team is experimenting with a new recovery drink called "Recover 180”

* O will be more Pro Style
