I performed a t test comparing the penalties called on LSU and Alabama during the regular season over the ten years from 2003 to 2012. I took the data of penalties each game from the official LSU and Alabama sites. Over this period each team played 118 games.
LSU's penalties per year goes like this: 89, 73, 74, 76, 76, 104, 74, 91, 67, 89.
Alabama's penalties per year: 48, 48, 63, 63, 48, 55, 70, 70, 66, 69.
LSU's average penalties per game is 6.8898.
Alabama's average penalties per game is 5.0847.
Using the t test comparing all the games, I get a p value of 0.0001! This means that there is certainly a difference between the penalties of these two teams. The important question is why?
I see two possible explanations.
1. Alabama is a more disciplined team. I find this to be highly unlikely as they would have to be more disciplined consistently of over a ten year period which included multiple different coaches on each team, including one coach who coached at both schools!
2. There is a bias for Alabama. This is much more likely. It would not take a conspiracy, just the subtle bias that is a result of the current structure of the SEC head offices. Also seems likely when we look at the other areas where Alabama seems to have created an advantage for itself.

The Tiger Rant has been comedy gold the last month, they cry worse than Aubarn, never thought that was possible.

theyre slowly becoming a sad bunch. Just not much positivity in there anymore, lots of rage and pessimism. And conspiracy theories.

The smell of spoiled tuna coming from that board is overpowering.

It's funny that their stats end in 2003. Alabama was one of the most penalized teams in all of college football in 2001 and 2002.

There you have it. Numbers, p values, and a host of logical fallacies: questionable cause, post hoc, burden of proof, and ignoring a common cause - all defended by the Circumstantial Ad Hominem fallacy. But what the hell, he has numbers, facts, and figures, right?
Seems legit to me.

One of the funniest posts I've ever seen. Do you guys think they'll ever get over 21-0?

They thought that Alabama would never get another good coach and when Saban came, it worried them. They knew Saban was good and would get Bama back. They just didn't think he would do it this quickly.
Haven't y'all notice how the LSU'ers hate Barrett Jones because after we beat them, Barrett said that "order was restored". It's tearing them up inside to see Alabama going back to the top of the SEC and the football world.
Then when Bama beat them, shut them out, destroyed their perfect season last year, it sent a lot of them over the edge. The final nail in the coffin is Bama going back to the BCS National Championship game again this year.
They had tasted the top, but Bama is taking back it's rightful place whether they like it or not.

Yep, after LSU beat Bama in the regular season last year, they could just see it: Les wins his 2nd BCSNCG to pull even with CNS. A mere 14 months later and it looks like it's going to be 4 for CNS vs 1 for Les. No wonder they're so angry

It is absolutely unbelievable over on Tiger Rant. They have blown their Bama fuse and are going apeshit. That board is covered in crackpot conspiracy theories, plots to leave the SEC, whining about the refs.
They are at the point where everything they do is viewed in the context of Alabama. They don't think of just LSU anymore, it's only LSU as it compares to Bama. Bama has completely and utterly consumed them and they are losing their minds. It's fricking sad. And kinda funny.

The stuff about Alabama consuming them is newer though. Many of them accepted 2009 because we had a good team and they won the next year. Although most people would say that the BCSNCG was the tipping point, I think it was slightly earlier. They were angry we got into the BCSNCG, but a lot of them felt that they would still win. If I had to pinpoint one spot where they completely lost it, it was when we took their star recruit in Landon Collins after they had made themselves believe he was theirs. I have talked to a lot of my LSU friends when that happened and they were beyond furious that he chose to come here, and I don't blame them. The whole thing made a fool out of them on national TV and destroyed the myth that LSU had Louisiana on lockdown. 21-0 only made everything that much worse.
