To some of you that understand this defensive scheme better than me…
Until the last 2 games, the injection of Yhonzae Pierre into the lineup gave a huge boost to our defense. The combo of he and Hill-Green caused a lot of disruption and pressure on qbs.
For whatever reason, the last couple of games we’ve been dropping Pierre more into short coverage & using him as a spy. It’s really affected our D as far as lack of qb pressure.
I didn’t notice, was this a position move because of injuries (like Overton) or Russaw coming back or just an assignment change within our d scheme?
Just curious…

If a player is on the field and has a weakness, it will be exploited.
I think the OC sets the matchup after he see how we are playing that offensive formation. Put YP on a rb and he is gonna get beat.

With Overton out and Russaw back they said they were going to be exotic to cover the injury and get the best players on the field.

Even Will Anderson under Golding would end up dropping sometimes (more than I would’ve liked) to keep Braswell and Turner on the field.

Also keep in mind that they didn’t want Stockton running the ball against us so it limits the edge pressure because you can’t get too far past him (mush rush).
