Avery is more proven then Prohm. Point about Dirk doesn't really matter since you could say the same about Marshall, Calipari, etc. It helps to have good players but that's not all it takes.

He stays in the south which is a plus. Some guys just enjoy the atmosphere and I could imagine that this opportunity would be very tempting. Full support and the want to improve. If he builds us up then he's set for the next twenty years or can use it as a springboard.

I think the more important question is: would Johnson be an improvement over Grant?

Johnson was coach of the month in the east a month before he was fired. It's not like the Nets are a stable franchise. He made the finals and had a 67-15 year. Make it happen. We make this hire and Battle deserves credit.

Personality and credibility wise, yes. Now will that translate to tourney appearances? It's anyone's guess but I hope it happens.

Any update? Someone from BOL said TOS (which usually refers to Rivals) said that they met and nothing is finalized. I don't subscribe to Rivals, so not sure what they are saying on that site.

university of Alabama athletics director Bill Battle met with former NBA head coach Avery Johnson on Saturday to discuss the head basketball coaching vacancy at UA, although there was no confirmation that Battle had offered Johnson the job.

A little concerning that this is supposedly their second meeting and he might not have been offered the job. Are we about to get Prohm'd?

I'm only a casual basketball fan so I don't know much about the mid-major guys, but it would be awesome if we hired a coach who could go into a recruits home and honestly tell his parents that he knows what it takes to make it and succeed in the NBA.

ETA: Holy runon sentence Batman.

No. This just tells me that it was Marshall's camp leaking everything, to help himself get a huge raise at wsu.

Probably not too much. The guy is already 60. 6 years ago, yes. Today, no.
