Would be a home run hire imo. He will be able to recruit and has the right personality to sell the program.

I don't see how a guy with his NBA credentials wouldn't be able to recruit

I mean we won't be landing mcdonalds all Americans but we should be able to compete for southern talent.

Has ties to the AAU circuit in Texas. NBA pedigree. Very likable guy.

Is his son any good? Would he transfer to Alabama to play under his dad if we hired him?

Give Mike Davis a call and see if he wants to be on the staff.

why would Mike D leave to come to bama with what he has going on now. Did you really think before you posted. Mike D is probably pissed he did not get the HC job but yet he will come as an asst. really?

He may not be able to. But, I'm thinking kids will love him, and his NBA connections. It's a name they'll know. I think parents will like him too.

@Ben_E10: "But He hasn't recruited in college!".... Ok? Big picture, recruits are trying to get to the NBA. Who better to show them how to get there?

@Ben_E10: NBA champ as a player and NBA coach of the year... If he comes and sits down in your living room, you're going to hear what he has to say

@Ianfitzespn: I'm getting a lot of texts asking "if he is offered would Avery Johnson take the UA job?" My answer again - if $ is right I know he would.

if AG could 'recruit" with his lousy personality then anyone with a personality should be able to recruit to UA.

al.com makes it sound like a meeting between them has already taken place. Is that the same meeting as ESPN was reporting that would happen "Saturday night"?

quote:

Crimson Tide athletics director Bill Battle met with former NBA coach of the year Avery Johnson, sources tell AL.com. Battle traveled to Dallas to meet with the ex-coach of the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets.

The only words that needed to come out of Battle's mouth, "What will it take?"

If we offered Marshall 4.9 million (I know he's proven at the college level, but still) throw it at Johnson too.

Yeessssss

If this hire is made it will be such a massively huge hire and he is very likely to bring Mike Davis with him as assistant to help recruit

The state is gonna be loaded the next couple years bringing Davis could lock it down in Crimson
