I'm a broken record about this but Battle had every intention to keep Grant. That is beyond me and it gives me zero confidence going forward in this search.

the funniest part of this whole thing is the next coaching change everyone will run to the pay sites and start regurgitating what Lucky and the other "insiders" are reporting as gospel.

Yeah, I am thinking of canceling my BOL subscription. Recruits typically lie in those interviews anyway, plus the HZT has nice snippets of the info there. The quality of the product has really gone down since Walsh and Powers left. Tim almost never posts, and the board is full of raging homers.

THIS

I honestly think he's to blame more than Battle. You can't fault Battle for trying, and it's impossible to do much when you have a guy trying to generate hits and build hopes off of no true bit of information. When you set the bar so high, you set yourself up for failure. He was making empty projections and offering up bullshite info just for the sake of satisfying the paying public.

I don't think Battle got played at all. No one expected WSU to pay this much.

And can please not bitch about Howland and fricking Rick Barnes? Howland was never going going to a Nike school.

Rick Barnes is terrible. You can tought that NCAA tournament stat all you want, but the lack of success with the talent he has had is laughable.

Like I said earlier if we are stuck hiring someone like Pitino or Prohm because of how long this took then feel free to bitch.

@mzenitz: Alabama offered Gregg Marshall a six-year deal believed to be worth $4.2-4.9 million per season,

4.2-4.9 million per season, but still couldn't land him. Ouch.

Have to say that Mr. Bill Battle was incredibly kind and personable. Also very impressed with the tweets from Bama fans & I wish them luck.

We could have Archie Miller or Shaka Smart tomorrow if we offer them $3.5-4 million a year. Marshall had leverage as a top coach on the market. Smart is being offered $2.8 million per year by Texas. Miller just signed an extension, so I think a major offer could get his interest.

With that kind of money, we shouldn't have to settle for Prohm or Pitino.

That's going to leave a mark.

How can you not land a guy when you offer to make him one of the highest paid people in the game? Either you suck at sales or he's got a screw or two loose.

I agree that 3.3M number from WSU came out of nowhere, didn't think they'd make that high of an offer

AH well time to move on

It's time to go after Archie or try to lure a much better coach away with that number, if I'm BB im calling up Mark Few (makes 1.2M), Shaka back and offering him etc

We need to revitalize this damn bball program

I would like to know who the "insiders" are saying are on deck now. Does lucky have any names to share with us are we supposed to be left hoping we aren't playing footsie with Prohm and Lil' Ricky?

Or he's happy at Wichita for now and knows that a better job will come as long as he keeps winning. Marshall got a huge raise and doesn't have to take a risk. And now, his value is high. It will take a huge offer from a big time program to get him to leave.

It's really not that surprising. If it had been $2.5 million, sure, but they upped him big time and made it clear they wanted him to stay. Battle couldn't control their counter.

LINK

Mark Few is 37th on the list

Shaka is 34th at 1.5 mil

That's where I'd start
