OK, now they ADH is just playing numbers games with us.
A while back the number sat on 999 for at least several hours, then boom the number went to like 1015 in a minute.

They have since increased it to 2006 cases and 53 reported deaths.

I don't think it was intentional, but rather just not enough date inputs to accurately model.

This and there's a second aspect that I don't think can be modeled well, which is how easily social distancing is implemented in most of Alabama.

For most of us, take away church and ball games (be they little league or NCAA) and there are simply no other situations where we gather in large crowds.

A little earlier in the thread there was a lot of discussion about 'reported' deaths vs APHD numbers. Well, a work acquaintance just had a family member pass away. The person had terminal cancer and getting nothing but palliative care. They'd been expecting his death for some time.

The JeffCo ME ran a covid test and he tested positive. The family was told it would be reported as a covid death. My acquaintance feels like this is just a sad attempt by JeffCo to pump the numbers up for some reason and you can't help but wonder if he's right.

A lot of places in the US are probably doing that. Meanwhile places like Germany are projected not doing that which would partially explain their lower death rate

Yeah, I read that Germany reported the cause of death as the comorbidity in cases where it was a terminal/serious illnesses.

Still, Germany's low death rate probably still has a lot more to do with their extremely high ICU capacity. Even in Italy, central and southern regions like Lazio (Rome) etc are showing death rates a lot more similar to the USA where cases didn't overwhelm hospital resources.

Agreed. I don't think the ADPH numbers are inflated and I'm sure quite a few of the reported ones are legit covid. I was just giving an example of why ADPH just doesn't take the local source's word for it.

I got the email from the Wing Commander detailing why he did this. It was basically because he could. Nothing major has happened. It just gives him more authority to make local decisions without waiting for higher approval.

Yeah, it's a good point you make.

Fifty-one patients who recovered from coronavirus in South Korea have tested positive again, raising fears the virus can be reactivated.

The patients - from the country's worst-hit city, Daegu - were put in quarantine after being diagnosed with the virus, then tested positive again days being released.

Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said the virus was likely ‘reactivated’, rather than patients becoming re-infected.

Scientists at the Government-run health body believe the virus may lay dormant at undetectable levels in human cells.

This is pretty damn scary if it’s true

Sounds like it's probably not true:
quote:

...Scientists at the Government-run health body believe the virus may lay dormant at undetectable levels in human cells.

They say that for unknown reasons the viral particles can then be reactivated - but it is unclear if patients become infectious again.

Experts say there is no evidence to prove that the virus acts in this way and studies in monkeys have actually shown the opposite.

And they say in cases where patients produce a positive result twice, it is normally because of a test giving the wrong result, which happens one in five times.

Point is that there is still more unknown than known about this virus.

When we open the economy back up, many will become infected but we really have little choice.

Hopefully effective anti-viral med(s) and vaccine(s) will be available before long.

That would be horrible.

However, even though the article claims this info is from "Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC)" hopefully the article takes it way out of context. The only couple of websites I see running it so far are not really UK papers with stellar reputations for thorough fact checking.

(I guess in these times one has to qualify that: I don't mean that at all in the sense of strong political affiliations but simply, for example, both Daily News and Sun are infamous with all European soccer fans for constantly running daily headlines on par with "Saban Will Take Falcons Job" where the only hard evidence turns out to be "he was in Atlanta this weekend".)

True. And for those who don't know, take anything you read from the NY Post with a grain of salt, it's a tabloid.

That is great brother. I had to go home and be around a wife that smokes. I have asked her not to smoke around me. It was easier when I was in the hospital.
