Millions of people don't have that option, and something tells me the whole "Murica, love it or leave it" bullshite doesn't apply specifically to bus drivers in North Carolina.

So you are one of those that believe we are a product of society and that fate was determined by someone else? No reply needed here.

quote:

. For every person who can afford to miss that much work you have 2 dozen who can't. And my issue is with the attitude that those people's only two options should be to move to a different country or stay at home with no means of bringing in any income. Because that is fricking bullshite.

Again those are choices people make. And yes sometimes shite happens and you either overcome it or give up. Those are choices as well. I have made choices that got me where I am now and this is coming from someone who lived homeless at times when younger not knowing where my next meal would come from and also becoming the first person in my family to go and graduate from college. Again my choice as I do not let others or my surroundings define who I am or make the choices for me.

In regards to the last part first it is free to drive across the border into Canada and Mexico. That comment from the other poster was I think more responding to someone else if you think the country is so bad it is your choice to leave. And there are many based on government handouts that have free housing, food, and make it. Just saying.

quote:

You mean like how we have law enforcement, fire departments, and the military? That kind of socialism? Or are we just talking about the other kind of socialism?

Please link where that is a form of socialism. With the exception of the military which is there to protect our rights and way of living(will not discuss their misuse at times here) against foreign aggression the others are local and state based and even those we pay to have and in some cases in this country FDs are privately owned and not run through the local municipalities. I guess next our are going to tell that volunteer fireman are Marxist soldiers. JK

And for the record unless you are unfamiliar with it the greatest examples of socialism in the history of the world was the Soviet Union and previous socialist state of China. I know many are under the misconception that they were communist but they were not. Hence the USSR was short for United Soviet Socialist Republic. So now you think we are like them because we provide civil service to help enhance people's ability in the pursuit of happiness. Got it.

quote:

So let's say an employee gets into a bad car crash and has to spend ~2 months out of work. You have no problem with that person's employer immediately firing them, in a country where health insurance is largely tied to employment?

The employer is here to make money very simple concept. And outside of the south which is mainly right to work states that employer would not be able to fire him in many cases especially in a union state. So yes I would hope the employer would hold his job but I also understand it depending on the business if they did not. Like or not businesses have to make money to to keep the doors open.

In regards to health insurance that is another issue of a completely broken system with exaggerated costs and under insured policies that even if that person has insurance they will still have to pay out of pocket.

Back to the bus driver. Raleigh was the first to report a case and was the epicenter for the state almost 3 weeks prior to him driving during that time. Warnings were already issued to people with symptoms to stay home. He was willing to risk the lives of thousands of people and he knew it as it has been reported he knew he had the symptoms while driving during those dates. Nothing anyone can post or say can justify his reckless actions that could take the lives of others.

I think some of the deaths are going reported as something else just from lack of testing. Any deaths related to pneumonia or respiratory failure should be eyed suspiciously as possibly being linked to COVID19 and just not known.

I agree as many states now are only testing people 65 and older unless you have underlying issues or your symptoms are severe. Basically what it is coming down to is if you think you have it stay home and self quarantine. So in the end the actual numbers for those who were infected may be far greater then we ever know and could even cause long term conditions after the fact that may be cause to a later death but not attributed to the virus.

Guys, do we have a definite answer on whether tornado shelters will be open for people during this quarantine? I believe we about to have a pretty tough spring, in regards to weather

I hear James Spann speaking out in favor of keeping shelters open.
That was a week or so ago, so who knows anyone's stance now.

I'm afraid of how bad this will get.

I personally know two of the people that died in NYC the past 2 days including a longtime friend Alan Merrill (who's the guy that wrote I Love Rock and Roll).

The odds of that would seem so low.

I don't recall seeing a definitive answer but I do remember the NWS saying that decisions would made at the local and county level whether or not to open.

Should be an easy decision. The Corona virus might kill you. A tornado dropping a house or tree on you definitely will, no ifs, ands, or buts.

LINK ]FDA authorizes two-minute antibody testing kit to detect coronavirus (Axios.com)
quote:

The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency approval Tuesday for a serological testing kit produced by Bodysphere Inc. that can detect a positive or negative result for COVID-19 in two minutes.

Why it matters: Access to testing has improved in the U.S. thanks to commercial labs, but the average wait time for a patient's results is four to five days — with some reports of it taking more than a week.

These antibody tests could help people know if they are able to go back to work, as well as aid researchers in tracking the scale and death rate of the disease — key data for current and future pandemic policies.

They're especially useful for determining whether health care workers have some immunity and are at lower risk if they go back to work.

What's happening: The FDA has been rushing to approve tests from companies that promise quicker results.

Abbott Laboratories received emergency authorization last week to produce portable coronavirus tests, which the company indicates can detect the virus within five minutes.

Yes, but: These rapid tests can only detect the coronavirus in people who have had the infection for several days, meaning the test can't be used too early on when the body hasn't produced enough antibodies.

ETA: Apparently this Bodysphere test is a hoax.
