For perspective, the virus came to Costa Rica long before it came to Alabama, and we now have less than half of the cases you have and the virus is contained and all clusters identified. In Alabama, you guys have hundreds of new cases every day and it is far from controlled.

Good chance that heat and humidity are a factor in this. Alabama is heating up, but we are still having cold snaps and lows in the 50s.

I thought the first case in Costa Rica was March 6th not counting the person that got it elsewhere and came in from Panama. I may be wrong though and your country did not declare it a national emergency until March 16th. Not much different from the timeline here.

INCIENSA has the capacity to complete 150 tests for COVID-19 each day, while labs at Caja hospitals now have a similar throughput.

I do believe we are testing and have the capacity far greater but correct if I am wrong please. Not to mention the cases have doubled this week as well there.

Maybe the reason lower numbers is the apparent lack of testing in your country. That is an assumption but 150 a day is not very many.

We did very well considering the information we were getting from China and WHO. Hard to know what you’re dealing with when you aren’t getting truthful information. Again, Trump was labeled as racist when he stopped flights from China.

And utterly eviscerated by European leaders and many Americans when he stopped travel from Europe before it got labeled the new hotspot.

So, um, explain his rising poll numbers in how he's handling this situation.

In the areas where Trump is popular, he is very popular. This issue or any similar issue would cause his constituents to rally, especially in the face of Democratic debates and primaries. It is an election year after all.

In the areas where he is not popular, he is loathed more than ever.

I have no doubt that Foxnews' continued brainwashing in an election year is working excellently on dedicated conservatives. I think Trump could rape a baby on live TV, and Foxnews would have Southerners demanding the account of it added to the Bible between Luke and John.

Also, I'm dipping out again on the political stuff. You guys have a tough situation regarding the virus and this thread should stay on that topic. Just FYI that I won't be replying further about Trump or whatever.

Prayers for you all. Sincerely.

Who said anything about Fox News?

I linked that bastion of conservative beliefs, The Washington Times.

Oh, and his approval rating amongst Democrats is up 5%.

Except he didn't. He only stopped Chinese nationalists from flying here, and any other foreign travelers that had traveled in or out of China the prior 14 days. And I've yet to see any evidence that he was widely called a racist for it. 2 Dem house members cautioned the bans can stoke racial tension. Biden did say he has a history of xenophobia, but never specifically mentioned the travel ban when he said it.

During a campaign rally, Biden said that “In moments like this, this is where the credibility of a president is most needed, as he explains what we should and should not do.”
This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria and xenophobia, hysterical xenophobia, to uh, and fear mongering,” Biden continued.

While Democrats in March attack President Donald Trump for not doing enough to end the coronavirus epidemic, the same Democrats were bashing the president’s decision to ban travel from China in January.

I did. I think Foxnews is destroying multiple generations of Southerners' access to and willingness to accept the truth.

For the record, I voted for Trump. I have leaned Republican most of my life, although I affiliate with no party.

However, to my eye, the current batch of Republicans are worse than any I've ever seen, maybe even worse than the war profiteers Cheney and Rumsfeld. I do not wish to tell anyone who to vote for; I desire that each and every person stop watching and reading Foxnews - get your news from literally ANY other source. And within weeks your view of the US will change for the better, and you'll be a more informed citizen. And then vote however you want.

I'm not anti-republican. I'm anti-this-batch-of-republicans, just like I'm anti-Clinton-democrats. I don't dislike Trump as a private citizen. He's entertaining and builds nice golf courses. Them being financed by the Russian mafia is no concern of mine. But I am anti-Trump as President, as I can clearly see he's inept, evil, and stands against most everything I stand for.

But again, let's let this thread be about COVID-19.

I love our country and don't want to live anywhere else. Having said that, we, as a country have to get over this idea that we're bulletproof and can't be harmed. I am convinced that 99% of our failures are due to ego and the thought process that no one would dare attack us or it can't happen here. If you need examples, the 1918 flu, Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and now COVID19 are perfect examples. We and our leaders ignore the alarm bells from experts both from inside and outside our country. Trump, who I usually support, is the absolute worst at this. A wise man knows his limitations and listens to others. Trump knows no limitations. He screwed this up big time early on. He's done better since, but now this Easter target date is showing his ignorance again. Experts are telling you you can't do that, it's too soon. LISTEN!

As a side note, have we finally seen enough of the damn Chinese to know that they are the biggest threat to humanity on this planet? Between their filth and pollution and their avowed desire to conquer Asia, if not the world, and their lack of regard for anyone not in the Chinese Communist Party, just isolate them and treat them like North Korea. Because that's who they are; a richer, more modern, slicker version of North Korea with the means to carry out their evil designs.

A lot of that criticism has been on the overall response, not solely the travel ban. A ban that came 2 weeks after our first reported cases here, and a ban that didn't stop Americans from travelling to and from China. Though that wasn't happening much because most of the major airlines had already stopped flights between the US and China.

Another report is out today with emails obtained from the CDC on the chaotic and unclear response in the early days of it.

He does. And it's shocking that the Democratic establishment supports him over Sanders. Biden's not even lucid.

Sanders doesn't have any appeal to southern black democrats, and history shows you almost have to win over southern black democratic voters to gain the Dem nomination.

Biden is a terrible candidate, but he's an easy choice next to the clown we have now.

He really isn’t lucid. I can’t even make fun of him or anything because he can’t help it. I have an Aunt with a form of Parkinson’s, and the similarities are striking.
